I began to give written notice of wanting to resign from my membership in early April, 2024. I spoke to a young woman employee who assumed that I was enjoying the amenities regularly and suggested that I wait three weeks, since I had just missed the cutoff for that month, and quitting requires thirty days notice. So I gave written notice on April 21, saying that I wanted to quit immediately. I was not trying to defy, challenge, or get around the thirty day requirement. I may have simply been using the original letter. That same day, I got a voicemail from ******* saying casually, that he wanted to make sure I understood that there was a thirty day requirement, and inviting me to call back. He also said that they might call me. I tried to call back once and was not able to get an answer or leave a message. They never tried to call me, as far as I know. I was charged on May 1, which I expected, and, much to my chagrin, June 1 also. I went in to address this. ****** was unfriendly and said that no cancellation had taken place. He tried to argue that *******'s voicemail was some official, explicit communication that no cancellation would take place until there was further communication indicating that I knew that there was a thirty day notice requirement, which does not make much sense. He cancelled my membership effective June 30. I was angry and raised my voice. He conceded that I did not scare him but threatened to call the police, and insisted that I leave. I had had committed no violence nor had I threatened to do so.
