I leased Office space for my Therapy practice from this building from April 2021 through March 2022. I paid $1050 per month for this space and chose it for it's disability access as I work with all disabled clients. The office manager after I signed the leased refused to let me use the private entrances, knowing that was one of the reasons I chose this office space. They locked me out of the heater and air conditioner while giving other tenants access to it, and blasted the heater on hot days and air conditioner on cold days making it unusable space for myself and my clients with Sensory Processing Disorder. They scheduled three months of construction on my office without letting me know, so it was unusable for that time. They then entered and removed desks from my office without my permission that contained HIPPA protected paperwork. They then lied and told me I needed to give them the keys to the office space at the move out inspection 2 weeks before my lease was up, and when I told them I did not need to give them my keys until the end of the month they responded with "We know, we just want you out of here as soon as possible." I had to pay for this space that they intentionally made unusable for me for 12 months and my business lost $100,000 due to their harassment.Business response

Better Business Bureau **** ** **** **** ******* ** *****
********** ****** ******** RE: ********
Mrs. ****** did indeed rent a space from Oak Park from April 2021 to March of 2022.
This tenant was never denied access at any time. In fact, we had a handyman come the day after she moved in to address the sticking of the doors that face east, which of course we have an invoice for. She almost always entered the office thru the back door facing north and frequently let the alarm off by not entering the lobby door, which is next to the alarm pad and following security procedures for the building. This is all addressed in emails.
The thermostat was locked because the tenant pushed the unit so low that the unit froze up and a repair vendor was needed. There is also an invoice for this repair. This is the first time we ever had any problem with any downstairs a/c unit. All of the thermostats in the building are locked, as with most commercial buildings. Mrs. ****** told our manager that 73 is too cold and 75 was too hot, which is not reasonable, especially when there are other tenants using the same system.
Repairs were made for the safety of our tenants and their pests, which took a few weeks. An email was sent to all tenants before those repairs started.
Mrs. ****** has been known to complain to other tenants and disparage the building and the building manager. She asked one tenant to share a space with her, perhaps to save her some money. Perhaps the monthly rent amount of $1049.00 was too much for her business.
No furniture or paperwork was removed from the suite during their rental time and Mrs. ****** knows that. Pictures were taken on 3/29/22 showing the two desks, belonging to the building, in the suite. Mr. and Mrs. ****** both saw the desks on 3/29/22 and Mr. ****** saw both on 3131/22 so we are not sure why she would lie about it.
We met with Mr. and Mrs. ****** on 3/29/22, two days before the end of her lease, not two weeks. We were under the impression they were leaving that day as per our email confirmation. Our manager was told they "forgot" their keys. Mrs. ****** then went on a rampage of screaming every profanity imaginable at our manager while her child was in earshot, as well as the other tenants and prospective tenants. When Mrs. ****** moved in she said her previous building had a noise issue, but she felt it was fine to be screaming outside of her suite door and to disturb the other tenants. The manager asked Mr. ****** if a sheriff was needed in order to stop any further verbal assault. At that time we arranged to meet on Thursday March 31, 2022 at 2:00 for the final move out and the manager told Mr. ****** their deposit would be processed in a timely fashion. Mr. ****** assured our manager that Mrs. ****** would not be present on the 31" move out and he would be handling it so that, in his words, there would be no more name calling. Our manager expressed her concerns to Mr. ****** that a therapist would act in such a manner. Mr. ****** then called and said Mrs. ****** had an appointment at 4:00 on the 31st in the suite so we switched the time to 5:00 pm on March 31, 2022. Our manager arrived at 4:45 and Mr. ****** relinquished keys and was told the deposit would be returned within 21 days. We made arrangements to have someone present on the 31" so that our manager would not be verbally assaulted again instead of having a sheriff assist us.
Although her erratic behavior was unbecoming to a therapist, the lies to the Better Business Bureau are as well.
