    Pattern of Complaint:

BBB files indicate that this business has a pattern of complaints concerning customer complaints. Specifically, customer complaints allege that the solar panels are not fully installed or are installed and not working. They state they are paying monthly for a system that is not functioning. Other consumers allege that certain products within the solar panels are not working. They are having battery and inverter problems and a delay in getting replacements or getting the issue fixed while continuing to make the monthly payments for a non-working system. Other consumers claim that they are being overpromised by the sales reps about production and time of installation. Many consumers state they are having customer service issues. Consumers indicate that they have trouble communicating with the business or receiving responses regarding all the issues they are having. Consumers also complain that the company claims to only be the installer and not the contractor.  On 10/25/2022  BBB notified the business of our concerns and requested their voluntary cooperation in eliminating the pattern of consumer complaints.

On 11/4/2022  the company provided BBB with their response:

To whom it may concern, This letter shall serve as our response to the letter received from the Better Business Bureau, on October 25, 2022 (“Complaint Letter”). Freedom Forever, LLC (“Freedom Forever”) is a service first company that places the customer first. We always endeavor to go above and beyond for our customers. We make sure we are not only fulfilling our contractual obligations but rather exceeding them in to provide a superior customer experience. This has meant for us, the extraordinary business decision to take a money loss on projects just to install them and make the customer happy when other companies would have simply cancelled the project. Where equipment was in short supply from the global manufacturing supply chain breakdown, we sent employees to small warehouses around the country to find individual quantities of necessary parts. We even developed our very own solar panel to overcome worldwide shortages in readily available solar panels. While other solar companies have faltered under the pressures of supply chain shortages, pandemic workforce challenges and uncertain economic times, Freedom Forever has grown exponentially. In 2021 alone, Freedom Forever has installed 23,058 residential solar systems across the following states: Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, and Wisconsin. This track record is exceptional in the industry. We are by all accounts, the gold standard in solar installations. We understand that from the sheer volume of solar projects we install, some consumers will be unhappy. There is no pleasing everyone. We trust the Better Business Bureau understands this better than anyone, but we deny in the strongest terms possible the negative allegations in the Complaint Letter. Below we will address each of the issues raised in the Complaint Letter in-turn: 1) “Customer complaints allege that the solar panels are not fully installed or are installed and not working.” This is categorically untrue. Freedom Forever installs projects fully and to working order. Our customer agreement has a scope of duty wherein Freedom Forever will install the solar system and will submit the paperwork to the utility for interconnection. We however cannot control a third-party utility and its timing of when they will grant permission to operate / interconnect the system. If a consumer has an individual issue with the utility, we always attempt to assist and expedite interconnection to the best of our ability. But again, the system itself is fully installed according to the customer agreement. 2) “They state they are paying monthly for a system that is not functioning.” Customers have multiple payment options when it comes to purchasing their solar system. If the customer is financing the system, the timing and amount of the payments (and any applicable interest accrued) will be subject to the terms and conditions of the financing agreement with the finance company. Any agreement between the customer regarding financing shall be solely between the customer and the finance company. Again, we install the system fully per the customer agreement. We cannot control any delays in interconnection with a utility. The utility is an independent third party with a separate contractual relationship to the consumer. 3) “Other consumers allege that certain products within the solar panels are not working. They are having battery and inverter problems and a delay in getting replacements or getting the issue fixed while continuing to make the monthly payments for a non-working system.” This is not correct. The solar system is installed with applicable warranties, including full pass throughs from the manufacturer. In the event that any part of the system is malfunctioning, Freedom Forever submits for warranty replacement and will coordinate the installation of the replacement part(s) when the manufacturer provides them. Freedom Forever offers an industry-leading 25-year production guarantee. At the end of a production year, if a customer’s solar system produces less power than the guaranteed annual production in their agreement, the customer can submit a claim about such deficit to Freedom Forever for review. 4) “Other consumers claim that they are being overpromised by the sales reps about production and time of installation. “ The customer is provided with an agreement that contains a production guarantee. The production guarantee spells out the exact amount of production the solar system will generate. As such, any allegation of an overpromise as to production is a misstatement. The agreement spells out exactly what the consumer can expect to produce and Freedom Forever stands by the production guarantee for an industry-leading 25 years. 5) “Many consumers state they are having customer service issues. Consumers indicate that they have trouble communicating with the business or receiving responses regarding all the issues they are having.” Freedom Forever maintains multiple customer service options including a toll-free number, text/sms, email, and chat via website and phone app. 6) “Consumers also complain that the company claims to only be the installer and not the contractor. “ Freedom Forever is a licensed contractor in every state it operates in. In conclusion, Freedom Forever strives to provide the best solar installation experience in the marketplace. We understand that not every customer can have the type of interaction they expected. But given the totality of installations we perform, the scope of the complaints referenced is dwarfed by the overwhelming number of happy customers we have in every state we operate in. We hope this letter aptly addresses your concerns and we are happy to continue the conversation to reinstate our good standing. Freedom Forever will continue to give our customers the best solar installation service. Any specific complaints are alleviated on their own merits. Again, if the BBB has any specific follow-up as to any specific matter not addressed in our response, we are happy to address it further.

I contacted customer service in May 2024 numerous times to alert them my panels were not producing. They claimed they were monitoring the system and that the technicians would take 3- 4 weeks to come to my home. June 26 2024 a technician finally came out and claimed the *** inverter needed to be replaced and could take 3 weeks to order and receive the part. July 23, 2024 they finally came out and replaced the part. My electric bill this month (July) is $282.84. May $19.65, June $52.74. Terrible customer service and now I have to build enough energy to last me through summer. This company has been an on going nightmare. Rip veterans and senior citizens off.

Freedom Forever has made promises to correct our issues with our solar panels and service we have hundreds of pages of documentation where the electricity we are producing is not powering out home costing us the loan amount for the solar plus outrageous bills. The electric company, tesla and independent electricians stated they have no way to repair as the install is not standard. We had a former employee reach out to us and advise our only recourse at this point is a lawyer and that even in the call centers they laugh when customers call for help.

I am rejecting this response because: *********** continues to state I owe payment, due 7/29/24, for a solar panel project that was cancelled over a year ago.  In speaking with *********** customer representative, it was revealed to me that *********** receives multiple calls a day from customers like me - they cancelled a solar panel installation project with Freedom Forever, but Freedom Forever has not communicated cancellation of the project to ************ so the customer is responsible for funds that *********** disbursed to Freedom Forever for the solar panel project.  In speaking with Freedom Forever **** ******** yesterday, she reported that she sent notification of several cancellations of solar panel projects to *********** the same date she sent notification of my cancellation, and she reported that all the other projects appeared cancelled, but mine remains active with *********** in her records, and she doesn't know why.  This makes no sense, and I worry Freedom Forever customer representatives are being dishonest with me.  ******* informed me she cannot call anyone at *********** and there is nobody else at her company for me to speak with regarding this issue.  I don't believe that Freedom Forever has done all that they can to address my concerns.  This is their mess up as they failed to cancel the project in their system for over year since I cancelled it directly with their customer representatives, and now I am the person stuck in between, owing money, with my credit score being held hostage.

On 8/14/23, I signed a contract with Freedom Forever through a 3rd party sales company, **************** Financial forms were signed for Solar Mosaic so they could get an approval for me and price me out a system. After comparing all my options, I decided to go with another company, and my sales rep was advised. I noticed in December of 2023 after I had another companies panels installed, that I had $21,931 on my credit from Solar Mosaic who I wasn't using. I never signed off on a system with Freedom or agreed on a system plan, so I feel this money should've never been drawn. I called Mosaic and they put an inquiry to Freedom Forever about the cancelation of the loan. This occurred around 12/13/23. This is after I recieved and email from Mosaic on 11/27/23 stating Freedom cancelled the project and they were refunding the loan, then an email on 12/5/23 from Freedom stating my project was being cancelled. Upon a recent attempt to get a HELOC, I noticed it was still on my credit. I called Mosaic and was told Freedom Forever declined the cancelation last December. They had my loan on hold and payments suspended until October 2024. I called Freedom and just got them to mark the project for cancelation around 6/26/24, but still have to wait until they feel like informing ******. The title search on my property shows that ****** has a lien against my home. They sent me a letter stating it was just for equipment (which doesn't exist on my property) but that doesn't change the fact it's showing against my property. I'm told Freedom puts everyone that cancels on a list and sends it to Mosaic at an unknown frequency and can't tell me when it will be sent to ******, and Mosaic can't clear the loan and lien until they get confirmation from Freedom. My HELOC is approaching a month and this inappropriate lien is impeding on a scheduled project. I was told Friday 7/19/24 by Freedom that my loan should be marked for cancelation by the end of the week, but I'm not optimistic.

Freedom Forever LLC started a solar installation on my home, January 11, 2024. I decided not to go forward with the project. I have been unsuccessful with Freedom Forever regarding the issue of removing wires and ropes left by the installers on my roof. They have neglected to have their installation team return to my home to remove the safety ropes and wires. The solar mounts cannot be removed because it will damage my roof which was just installed. The lack of professional courtesy in responding to my service requests, i.e., I have submitted several ticket requests that were not, as of this date July 22, 2024 been resolved. Going forward, not only does it present a safety issue, it has or potentially reduced my property value as I recently had my home appraised. Freedom Forever has damaged my property and has made no attempt to assist me with repairs or potential future costs. They are eager only to make a profit, and their method suggests they are deceiving because they are not forth coming with the true costs, which places homeowners with an unnecessary financial burden, which is unfair to the customer.Thank you for time and in helping me to resolve this issue.

Installed a new solar system in July of 2021 for a cost of $29K Noticed solar was not working via my Solaredge app August 1 2022 Multiple phone calls and emails - As of September 22, 2022, issue had not been resolved Inverter was down over two months in during the hottest part of the year - in fact it was the hottest summer on record.Current issue - inverter has failed again June 5 2024 - system stopped producing power June 15, 2024 - auto notification from SolarEdge that inverter had failed - zero contact from Forever Solar June 18, 2024 - I called and emailed forever solar to get status of repair - got the "we're working on it and will escalate it" response July 9, 2024 - I called and emailed forever solar to get status of repair - got the "we're working on it and will escalate it" response July 19, 2024 - still zero contact from Forever Solar and the system is not working. This company is selling parts that are known to be defective and not honoring the warranty in a timely fashion. The equipment breaks when you need it the most and the failure is defeating the purpose of buying the system in the first place. They have a process to get reimbursed for situations like this but it is very cumbersome for the system owner and doesn't take into the account the total inconvenience it causes.

It has been 5 months to process a refusal of services and close a loan that should never have been opened. 2/6/24 Salesman from Freedom Forever LLC came to my home selling services for solar panels, a service I did not want. He was pushy; I signed a contract for services. I expressed concern about a loan document, I was told I was not signing final documents, that there were many steps before finalization and I could cancel. I cancelled in writing per Freedom Forever's contract on the following day, mailed the notice to Freedom Forever. 2/29/24 I received an email from Freedom Forever stating my cancellation was received, and would be processed. 5/15/24 I was made aware of a loan account opened by **************** in relation to these services that were REFUSED/CANCELLED. Upon reaching out to Freedom Forever and Solar Mosaic, I was informed that the cancellation had not been processed. I was told on multiple occasions by representatives at Freedom Forever that I am on a cancellation list, and that Freedom Forever has to return the loan to Solar Mosaic before the account can be closed. Solar Mosaic will not close this loan account for services I refused, and expect payment from me until Freedom Forever notifies Solar Mosaic. I have been in contact with Freedom Forever and Solar Mosaic, and most recently requested a follow up call from Freedom Forever on the status of the cancellation on 7/1. They have not contacted me. To my knowledge, as of 7/18/24 Freedom Forever have not informed Solar Mosaic that the project was cancelled, refused, and that no goods/services have been exchanged, and more importantly has not yet returned the loan to the loan servicer. I have not received any reasonable expectation of when this refusal of services will be completed and Solar Mosaic informed to remove the loan account. Solar Mosaic will not close the account without this notification from Freedom Forever. I have notified the credit bureaus of my dispute to this account.

On 12/23/23 *************************** visited my residence where I live with my son, *************************. He was selling solar panels for Freedom Forever. I told him I wasn't the homeowner and he said that didn't matter. Told me they can be transferred to anyone. (I've since found out they can't be transferred) He told me I wouldn't have to pay for electricity, only $159.07 monthly for 25 years. It took until 7/03/2024 to get them turned on. This after many obstacles they failed to inform me of. I wasn't told I had to have a $100.000 H/O policy That was double what I was paying. I had to come up with a large downpayment for that. I was still paying an electric bill and $159.07 to them starting in March 2024. I informed them that I'm 83 years old and on a fixed income and can't afford to pay both payments. They said they would refund the payment's I paid when the solar panels were turned on. I've since found out that's not true. I'm confused how Mosaic is who I owe the money to for the solar panels. I started getting payment coupons and phone calls from them. I sent them money orders for March, April, and May. During this time, I would receive daily phone calls from Mosaic stating they never received any of the payments and were harassing me to make those payments over the phone. I sent them copies of the money orders and was told it's not paid until they receive it. I never agreed to take out a loan and never signed any contracts for any of this. I'm 83 and have a 6th grade education. I feel like I was taken advantage of. I told them I didn't own this home. I stopped making the payments and they are calling multiple times a day threatening me with court. I found a letter taped to my front door. I feel like I've been misled and lied too. I never signed any contracts with these people and have never received any paperwork. The roof is now leaking, and they told me to go up on roof and send them pictures. My daughter went on their portal and saw that *************************** signed my name.

I am rejecting this response because:

I was lied to and I dont own this home. My son ************************* owns it. I wasnt aware that I was getting a loan from anyone. I dont know where ****** came in? The company is Freedom Forever Solar. I was totally mislead and lied to. It took them from Dec 2023 until July 2024 to get them turned on and working. Ive since found out I will still have an electric bill because I was never told about Backup Batteries to hold the solar energy. They can reach ************************* @ **************. They will speak to my daughter, ************************* on my behalf because I dont understand any of this. I was totally taken advantage of. I also never signed any contracts with them. I waited for them to bring the contract back for my signature. That never happened. Thats not my signature on that paperwork. This is all a scam to me. One person sells the solar panels. Then Freedom Forever is the point of contact and the construction company only doing the install. They could never address how the business was done from the start. Never can speak to one person. Having to repeat everything over and over. Hoping that I would get frustrated and stop calling. Then ****** came in from nowhere and started harassing me for money. I am 83 years old, I have a 6th grade education. I was mislead and taken advantage of. Answer these items that Im speaking about. For instance: I never signed a contract with you and Ive never received a copy of a contract that you say I signed. Talk about calling this stuff. Not an auto generated reply!

We agreed to a solar installation and roof replacement on 3/3/24 with an estimated completion date at the end of April 2024. Freedom Forever was the contractor and they used Roofix as a subcontractor for the roof. We applied for a loan with a company called Mosaic, which was who Freedom Forever used. After the first week we stopped receiving any updates on the project and had trouble getting responses from any of the people we we were told to contact. To be clear, our problem is only with Freedom Forever, not with Roofix or Mosaic. At our first meeting with Freedom Forever, we made it clear that our HOA required very specific roof tiles and that they were expensive. We were never asked for any more information until the roofing company asked us to make a choice for our material. The roofing company eventually told us Freedom Forever had underbid the roof project and they were attempting to work with them on a resolution. Freedom Forever denied this, saying our HOA hadn't approved the project. Our HOA had, in fact, approved the project and had emailed Freedom Forever and cc'd me about a week after the plan was submitted. After mainly ignoring all forms of correspondence for two months, I received a call from our sales rep saying I had two options. I could cancel the contract. I could cancel the contract and sign a new contract for an additional $11,000. I told them to cancel the contract as I was not happy with the company at this point, or the new quote. Mosaic quickly cancelled the loan on their end, but informed us that they also needed correspondence from Freedom Forever. We contacted Freedom Forever, who told us cancellations are processed in the order they're received and it would be "months" before it was cancelled. So this appx. $50,000 loan, that was never actually used is now sitting on my credit report. Freedom Forever is more or less holding my credit hostage until they can get to it, even though the cancellation is entirely on them.
