I registered for the youth program, and then Covid happened. They postponed the season and kept our funds to use for future seasons. I respectfully asked for a refund. I waited another season so they could collect additional funds from new registrations. They are registering for the new season, so I respectfully asked for another refund. My child will not be playing recreational volleyball, she is assigned to a club team. They tell me I can only apply it to another season, sibling, friend or donate my registration fee. She does not have a sibling or friend doing youth volleyball. I do not want to be forced to donate my registration fees because they tell me I have too. I want my $175 refund. They have had the use of my funds for 1+ year. I understand the refund policy, but that went out the window when Covid hit and changed the way the funds were being used.

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/05/06) */ Dear BBB, We are a 25 year old Nonprofit Organization (501 C-3) that runs spring, summer, fall and winter programs for children 7-16 years old in eight states. When the stay-at-home orders came into effect, we were preparing to start our Spring 2020 season. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, we had to postpone all of our programs until we are given permission by local, state and the CDC to resume youth sports safely. No programs have been cancelled. We have maintained clear communication with our participants and have notified them of the postponement. We understand that for many that may not be acceptable and would like a refund. We have communicated that we are not in a position to process refunds due to funds not being available. Please understand that our income brought in for the Spring 2020 season to service those participants was used for nonrefundable league expenses such as equipment, volleyballs, net systems, marketing, employees, rent, insurance, background checks, operations costs, registration platform, credit card fees, site boxes, medical kits, training booklets, training and shipping and postage. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, we have not been able to provide our usual programs and have only been able to run modified programs following strict Covid-19 guidelines. We don't know when we will be able to be back in full operation. We have cut expenses to the bare minimum, keeping minimal employees working remote safely. All others have been furloughed. It is our intention, as it has always been for the past 25 years, to provide a program for our registrants. Unfortunately, the Covid-19 Pandemic is something we have never seen and it has been catastrophic. I provided **** ******* a refund minus credit card fees on 5/6/2022. Thank you for your time and letting me explain the situation that we are in at this time and that in all our years of operation as a nonprofit, we have never encountered a situation like this one, which has annihilated business across the country. Respectfully, USYVL

My daughter signed up to Play Volleyball with the United States Youth Volleyball League program. We paid the full cost of tuition. The United States Youth Volleyball League cancelled the program. The Executive Director***************** said she would only provide a credit for future play; or a sibling can use the credit or provide a receipt for donation. We do not want a credit or to make a donation. We have attempted to nicely settle this with United States Youth Volleyball League. We asked for a refund immediately when the class was cancelled. The United States Youth Volleyball League organization asked that we wait at that time to process the refund until they had the program running again. As a kindness to the youth organization, we waited. It is now running again and we would like or money back. My daughter is not interesting in playing. Please help.

BBB, Please be advised. ****************, Executive Director of United States Youth Volleyball is not being fully transparent in here above statement. Please see the attached. The organization did in fact refund $121.28. Our original payment made to USYVL was in the amount of $150.00. According to their own office invoice the fee was $3.60 and I was to receive a refund of $146.40 according to the paperwork that they sent with the check. However, as mention and witnessed in the attached the corresponding check is missing $25.12. I feel that the pandemic affected both individuals and organizations. I will accept this matter closed. But I do not feel this organization operates transparently. Respectfully,

I signed my daughter up for USYVL in Laguna Niguel for the Spring 2020 session... then Covid hit and all programs were cancelled until further notice. *******, from USYVL, sent out an email in May 2020 asking if parents wanted refunds (due to financial hardship) to which I responded yes. Correspondence between me and ******* ensued, where she assured me that I would be getting my money when they were in a position to refund me. I wrote an email in June 2020, to which ******* said they weren't in a position to refund me. Then I wrote another email in October 2020, and ******* still didn't have an answer for me. I reached out again in January 2021, and again in March 2021, and both times she said that once USYVL is in a position to resume regular programming, then they will issue me a refund. Then in June 2021, when USYVL was finally able to resume their program and were most likely in a position to refund my money, I reached out to ******* via email asking about my refund, to which she responded "we are providing credit for future play for all spring 2020 registrants and not refunds as previously thought. We should have fall information for your program soon or if spring is a better fit, your credit will still be good for spring 2022." WHAT?!?!!? No way! All that time we spent back and forth and she wouldn't just give me my refund of $175 back. I have no desire to put my daughter in their programs ESPECIALLY after this. I reached out to my credit card company to see if they could help, but it was too late. I'm hoping that BBB can help me instead! I have attached the email correspondence between me and ******* for your information and reference. THANK YOU!!!

I registered my child for USYVL for Spring 2020 which was dismissed because of the pandemic. While no effort from USYVL has taken place, the organization held my money for over 2 years and continues to refuse a refund but a credit. After explaining multiple times that my family can no longer participate, USYVL still refuses to take further actions. The pandemic is an unfortunate event but USYVL holds families' solely responsible, refuses withdrawal requests from the registration and forces acceptance of an ill solution from their decision alone. While I have no issues of donation due to pandemics, I would like to request a full refund due to the way that USYVL reacts.

We paid $600 for Advanced Juniors prior to COVID shutdowns. They requested families continue to leave the money in their account pending the season re-opening. When they re-opened, Advanced Juniors was not offered and my daughter aged-out of the program. I repeatedly asked for a refund with no response. Then they asked me to donate the money or give it to a friend because they couldn't afford refunds although they are collecting money from new families now. I was sent a receipt indicating they refunded a credit card, but no refund appeared on any of my accounts and they won't respond to tell me the last 4 digits of the card. Please help me get a refund. This "non-profit" has scammed several people and made a large profit. That is FRAUD!

I made a payment of $550.00 on 12/3/2019 so my son could play in the Advanced Junior League season of the United States Youth Volleyball League (USYVL) in Spring 2020. See attachment #1. Before the season could start on 3/31/2020, it was announced that the league had canceled all their programs due to covid. At that time, we were asked to wait for the next season where the money would be transferable to another season. Advanced Junior League seasons for Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 were also canceled. On March 31, 2021, I received an email from USYVL that there may not be Advanced Junior League option in near future, but USYVL has a skills program. Upon further inquiry so my son could potentially join, I was told that my son's age and skill level would not be appropriate anymore for the programs offered by USYVL. At that time, I requested a refund. I was told on May 5, 2021 that once the regular season starts, I would be given a refund. See attachment #2. On Aug 3, 2021, I received an email by USYVL that the Fall 2021 season will be on from Sep 14th 2021. I contacted USYVL to remind them about their promise of refund. On Oct 19, 2021, USYVL told me that contrary to what they thought earlier, they would not refund the money. See attachment #3. USYVL promised to provide a season of Advanced Junior League in Camarillo. If that could not happen for 3 seasons because of the pandemic, and now they are telling me that my son cannot play anymore because of his age and skill level, then they need to refund the full amount of $550, as they promised earlier. I have made several calls and many email exchanges, and now their phone numbers are showing full mailbox so I cannot even leave a message anymore. They are simply playing games and trying to waste time, so no one can take any legal action against them. I had registered my child for the Spring 2020 season and due to the pandemic it was cancelled, which is understandable. As part of their process, they allowed parents to fill out a form if you are experiencing financial hardship to get fees returned. After filling the form out, I waited and waited until they said our area was cleared to play. When our area was cleared, I asked about the refund and was told by ************* that they were no longer able to refund the fees. My emails keep getting the same response they are unable to and when I try to call, the voicemail box is full. They offered options of forwarding fees to another session, but my child has aged out and is unable to take advantage of it. I have also volunteered my time for the organization coaching teams and I'm extremely disappointed in their decision. I'm hoping the BBB is able to assist in getting my fees.

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/01/04) */ Dear BBB, We are a 24 year old Nonprofit Organization (501 C-3) that runs spring, summer and fall programs for children 7-16 years old in eight states. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, we have not yet been able to provide the programs for our participants, unlike in the past 24 years, and we don't know when we will be able to be back in full operation since we are not an essential business. We have cut expenses to the bare minimum. It is our intention, as it has always been for the past 24 years, to provide a program for our registrants. Unfortunately, the Covid-19 Pandemic is something we have never seen and it has been catastrophic. I provided ***** **** a refund minus credit card fees on ********* Thank you for your time and letting me explain the situation that we are in at this time and that in all our years of operation as a nonprofit, we have never encountered a situation like this one, which has annihilated business across the country. Respectfully, ***** Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2022/01/07) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) Hello, I had let ******* at USYVL know that we had moved, & no longer have the debit card open that I used to pay for this program, she asked for my new address to mail the refund to, which I have sent through email to her several times. I have no idea where this refund is that they say they issued, they just said it was issued on 1-4-22 but with no other info, they didn't say what card, or for how much. I have not received anything, & once again my old debit card has been closed, & that's why I gave my new address so they can mail a check. I can even give them my new bank account info if they would like to refund it that way. But as of now I have no idea how much, & where they issued this so called refund. They need to give more info, how am I supposed to get a refund if they send it to a closed account? If that is the case they need to cancel whatever they have sent, & reissue it through check, or to my new bank, which I will provide, depending on which way works best for them, just please let's get this taken care of and give me the refund you promised. I have all the emails so I can provide proof you said you would issue refund if this is causing a hardship, which I have said several times that it is. Consumer Response /* (2000, 10, 2022/01/07) */ Hello I just wanted to say I received the refund check in the mail today. I am happy with the resolution and thank you for the help from BBB and thank you USYVL for doing the right thing and giving me the refund. It is greatly needed and appreciated. Thank you **********

Registered for spring of 2020 volleyball season to begin in April of 2020 **** Due to covid it was canceled. I requested a refund after 8 months of cancelations of seasons. Was told we would receive a refund after they had money from a program. After registration began for a program, again requested a refund and was told we could only transfer to a new season. I transferred it even though my daughter doesn't want to play and can only attend 1 of the 2 days per week. I emailed again requesting a refund as my child no longer wished to play after being told we need to buy a volleyball even though they usually send one out. I was told no. Originally when the season was canceled they said we could request a refund if this is a financial hardship but now they are denying refunds.
