Visiting from out of town and decided to take 16 family members to see SING 2 on Christmas day. Took out my phone to IMDb who the voices were in the animated feature and was approached by an employee to step outside and talk to a manager. Upon stepping outside, I was asked to leave for having my phone out. I wasn't asked anything about my side or experience and was spoken to like a toddler. Full disclosure- this was upsetting. No warning, no asking, just accusations. I respect a no phone policy, and rules in general- but come from an area where they literally have phone chargers in the chairs. I was at fault for assuming this simply meant good etiquette - no bright lights, no talking on the phone-and never denied my culpability to the management. I would consider myself a movie buff and I have general good manners and etiquette no matter what public setting I am in. I did break a rule, that I was unaware of, even though my phone was on a dark setting with the lights turned all the way down. That is not even the part that is unforgivable. I begged for her grace, offered to give her my phone for the duration of the theater so I didn't have to leave my husband, children, nieces, nephews, sisters, brothers and parents. There was no consideration -even on Christmas Day. I went back into the theater and retrieve my purse. Upon coming out I asked to talk to the manager again, at which point a male manager approached me this time. My sister-in-law was with me and tried to help me plead my case. It was Christmas day and our families were all together. I was from out of town and not aware of the strict ejection policy. I touched the managers hand that was resting on his chest as I begged him to let me back in the theater-at which point he immediately got on his walkie, accused me of touching/assaulting him, and summoned the cops! The cops!!!! I exited the theater and three cop cars came up! was outside crying so the officer talked to me first. He shook his head and agreed with me. He stated that his own colleague had been ejected for opening his phone to an emergency swat team call! And that this is the only theater they have problems with. The unforgivable part? I begged my family to go back in the theater while I waited in the car. But they stayed to plead my case to the cops. This is when the assistant managers LIED to the manager and the police. Told them that I was aggressive and in his face and put my hands on him. My sister-in-law was standing there the entire time and assured the police that this is not what happened. I am a 45-year-old woman who goes to the movies on average two times a month. The only law I have ever broken is a traffic violation. I am highly religious and live a clean and sober life. Hard to believe that the cops were called on me, let alone at movie theater that I bought 16 tickets at and spent over $125 in concessions. (A review of the concessions and the attitude of the employee helping us, and the quality of the run down theater, would take a full separate 1 star review. Cold food, items that were promised to be brought into the theater to us which we had to step back out and retrieve ourselves when they forgot, seats missing fabric, unusually loud volume....) Easily one of the worst and most embarrassing experiences of my entire life. Update: my family members that remained in the theater told me that the assistant managers told the manager that I was offered a warning and declined it. That I refused to leave. That they told me to put my phone away and I told him I wanted to finish playing my game! Laughable! That I was up in their faces and getting physical. I have never gotten in a physical fight in my entire life. It's not even part of my character or DNA. They can pull the footage and see if that my tone match their managements tone. And that at some point I become tearful and beg for their mercy. I never denied I broke the cell phone rule. But slandering my character is criminal. I hope this makes it to the manager and he pulls the tape, and sees that he has untrustworthy, dishonest, people working for him. $300 on Christmas Day bought me deep embarrassment, character assassination and deep sadness. Shame on this theater.
