Restcon took a sample of our kitchen linoleum and had it tested in a laboratory. The linoleum and adhesive came out negative for asbestos. We proceeded to remove the kitchen flooring as if it didn’t have asbestos and found another layer of old linoleum underneath the top linoleum in the kitchen. Restcon stated that they removed the sample down to the concrete in the kitchen so we proceeded to remove both layers of the kitchen linoleum. However after looking at the old linoleum closer (after removal took place) it didn’t match the description of the kitchen linoleum tested. I asked them to take samples of the old linoleum and the did free of charge, and the old linoleum came back positive for asbestos. They sent the original technician out the same day as the positive results to take pictures and he apologized for the mistake of not taking a kitchen floor sample down to the concrete as he said he did. I’m waiting for the next steps to keep my family and myself safe in a house where floor grinding took place on asbestos containing floor. I just hope we’re safe. My husband, elderly mother, and baby were home during the floor grinding. They moved to the other end of the house but who knows how far the fibers traveled.
