On Nov 29 2023 I received this unsolicited email from Mountain Summit Financial (attached to complaint). I have no idea who this company is, nor have I ever dealt with them. The link in the email goes to an email address labeled "campaign". They are clearly running some sort of marketing campaign where they are sending out fake/false/scam emails to people they've never had contact with. I received an email from this company stating that I had a loan with them. The account number for the loan is #********. The address they have listed on the email is an address I haven't lived at for over 6 years. Fortunately, it says it was paid in full. I tried calling customer service to find out information about this loan, but they said thy needed my SS#. I was not about to give it to them since I never took a loan out with them. The agent told me she could not access the account without it even though I gave her the account number. I'm assuming they do not do any kind of verification before providing loans, so I need to make sure they don't have any of my personal information on file to potentially create another fictitious loan. I did not fill out any loan documents and have verified with my bank that no monies have been deposited or debited to or from my account.Business response

I received a ****-c from Mountain Summit Financial for a $1000 debt that was never taken by me and for which I have had no prior knowledge or communication about such debt. Review of this company on BBB shows that this is a systemic problem with this company not adequately doing any adequate verification before authorization of these loans. Further compounding the issue they are now filing fraudulent documents with the *** against unsuspecting tax payers who are being required to jump through hoops to clean up a mess this company created.Please put some action into getting this company to properly do their job and stop issuing fraudulent claimsBusiness response

This business claims a loan was taken out in my name. I have never heard of them and when I asked for details they asked for my social security number. I cannot imagine anyone who would give their social over the phone to a stranger. It sounds like a phishing scam. They have a website that looks legitimate. They sent me an e-mail requesting paperwork and an affidavit with more personal information signed by a police officer. I called my police department and they have NEVER signed such document and would not. It's a ridiculous request.Business response

I am rejecting this response because: I have never received any communication from them in writing in regards to a balance due or account information etc. I only received a suspicious phone call. I read they have sovereign immunity...I do not think this exempts them from valid business practices. I have no idea who they are...I called them to investigate what this was about and they want my social security number which I refuse to give....so then they say they cannot tell me anything....they sent me an identity theft affidavit form; however, that form asks me to reveal sensitive personal information which I will not do. I will never give this fraud company my personal info. I have lifelock and montitor my credit reports and there is no activity hitting my credit. So I have no reason to believe they are real. And again why would I ever give them my social security number??My local police is aware of their attempt to collect my personal information. I notice many other complaints online about them as well.

I am rejecting this response because:My local police department in **********, ** advised me to not give personal information to this company claiming a loan was taken out in my name. I have no information from them other than a suspicious phone call. The ********** ***************** believes this to be a phishing scam where if I give them the personal information they request, further abuse will come my way and I am not going to do that. I received no information from this company in the mail or otherwise. The credit bureaus have no incidence of new credit in my name.

I inquired about this loan in November. Without accepting this loan I received an email stating that I was approved and sent me payment details. I then called the Company right away stating I did not want this loan and that there interest and principal was absurd. The **************** Representative then proceeded to tell me that I would not actually be paying that amount if I canceled earlier. Over and over again he said I could call at anytime and anything I have paid up to the date would be deducted off the loan amount. This loan was taken out in November. My first payment started in December. Loan total was $1200 and to this date I have paid $1959.92. I called today to discuss this amount and they state as of today my payoff is $1100. My husband and I both received ****c from mountain summit financial **** ***************************************************************. Neither of us owe this or have ever done business with this company. I have called them and filed a fraud complaint and requested they recall the ****c as this is fraud. They have done nothing to resolve this and keep giving us the run around. Somehow they had our address to send the ****c but never contacted us otherwise, which makes no sense, as a credible company would have sent something to our address alerting us prior to a ****c. We also have lock on credit so i know they did not check credit. I asked if they checked credit or verified anything and they confirmed they did not or send us anything to our address prior to the ****c. This is completely fraud and this company allowed this identity theft to happen to both my husband and I. I see many other complaints about identity fraud for this company and see several saying the exact same thing. This company should not be allowed to operate.Business response

Received a ****-c form - a cancellation of a $1000 loan we did not take out but are required to pay taxes on the loan. We never received any information for this loan taken out inAugust of 2020 but somehow someone got the $1000 and left us with paying the taxes. We contacted the mtn summit and they said they solely loan digitally so no papers were signed or notices sent out. How can someone borrow money with our information and we're never alerted but they seem to find us when the taxes are due. This company is a sham! They don't do any background or credit checks on those taking out loans. We live in ******** and this company is in **********. We've never heard of them until we filed a criminal report for identity fraud concerning this issue. We'd love to have the better business bureau help us clear this up.Business response

I received a ****-C from this company for a debt that was discharged in my bankruptcy in August 2019. I called February 10, **************************************************************************************** 5 business days. I have called on Feb 17, 18, 22, 23, and 24th and was told, "you should receive a response if not today then tomorrow," each call. As of today, I still haven't received a response. This isn't fair.
