      ******* insurance is very ambiguous about how to waive the insurance and make it impossible to waive their expensive insurance. And keeps refusing to accept alternative insurance. Forcing student to enroll in their expensive one.I checked the ensurance I tried to enroll in and enquiried about it. It should have met the requirements to waive the ******* insurance. But they just kept refusing to accept my alternative insurance. And delaying response to past the deadline to waive the insurance.

      All registered domestic and international students take one (1) or more credit hours are required to have health insurance coverage, either through the ************************ Plan or through another individual or family plan.

      Students enrolled at California Institute of the Arts who wish to opt-out of the ************************ Plan (SHIP) must submit alternate coverage information through the Academic HealthPlans Waiver System. In order to be approved for a waiver, your alternate health coverage must meet the requirements listed below and be submitted with proof documentation prior to the January 20, 2023 deadline.

      Domestic Students must be enrolled in a health plan that is compliant with the *************** Act (ACA):
      1.Provide the Essential Minimum Benefits required by the ***** with no annual limits. A list of the benefits can be found here: **************************************************************.
      2.Contain no exclusions (or waiting periods) for pre-existing conditions.
      3.Covers 100% of *************** as defined by the *****. A list of these preventive services can be found here: *************************************************************.
      4.California State Medi-Cal Plans are acceptable for waiver.

      NOTE: The following plan(s) will NOT be acceptable for waiver approval:
      Short-term coverage plans are not accepted.
      Financial Assistance plans are not accepted.
      Travel plans or plans that require you to pay for treatment yourself and then apply for reimbursement are not accepted.

      International Students must be enrolled in a health plan that meets the following minimum requirements:
      1.Student is sponsored by ***************** government with medical health insurance provided that meets ******* waiver criteria.
      2.Student is sponsored by a foreign government recognized by ***************** or certain international government-sponsored or non-governmental organizations and covered under a health plan that is compliant with the *************** Act (ACA).
      3.Student is enrolled in an employer-provided group plan that is compliant with the ACA.
      4.And provide the following coverage benefits:
      oAmbulatory (i.e., Outpatient) patient services
      oEmergency Services
      oHospitalization
      oMaternity and newborn care
      oMental health and substance use disorder services
      oPrescriptions drugs
      oRehabilitative and habilitative services and devices
      oLaboratory services
      oChronic disease management
      5.Imposes a deductible of no more than $500 per year (except for U.S. Employer plans).
      6.Repatriation expenses in the amount of no less than $25,000.
      7.Expenses associated with the medical evacuation of the insured to the insured's home country of no less than $50,000.

      If the health plan does not include medical evacuation and repatriation, a rider must be purchased providing coverage at equal limits.

      NOTE: The following plan(s) will NOT be acceptable for waiver approval:
      Short-term or limited duration plans and other health plans created expressly for the purpose of providing coverage to international students and/or non-immigrant **** holders do not meet the requirements for *************** Act (ACA).
      Healthcare Sharing Plans.
      Financial Assistance plans.
      Travel plans or plans that require you to pay for treatment yourself and then apply for reimbursement are not accepted.


      Step by step process for a waiver of purchasing an insurance plan through *******:

      1.******* will submit students who are eligible to waive on the *** file to AHP.
      2.Student logs into the waiver system and submits a waiver.
      3.Auditor opens the waiver submitted by the student in the auditing queue.
      4.Auditor determines the type of waiver submitted - Domestic or International.
      5.Auditor opens the audit guide and follows the waiver requirements for international students as determined by the school.
      6.Auditor determines if the waiver requirements have been met.
      7.If the requirements have been met, the auditor will change the waiver status to approved. An approval email will be sent to the student advising of the approval.
      8.If the requirements have not been met, the auditor will change the waiver status to denied. A denial email will be sent to the student advising of the denial.
      9.If the auditor is unable to determine if the waiver can be approved or denied based on the information provided by the student, the auditor will request additional information from the student for further waiver consideration.
      10.Requested additional information must be provided prior to the waiver deadline date or the student will be enrolled in the student health insurance plan.
