I had my daughter in the program and took her out late June I spoke with **** who is the manager there I believe and mentioned to him that she will be with her father so we won't be using the program and that we will let him know when we return he said okay no problem just let him know. I wasn't billed for July or August and then I never looked at my credit card statement until November and saw that I was billed 3 months worth starting in September. I never authorized them to start charging my card and she has not been there since June. He has refused to give me my refund and said my daughter can come back to the program for 3 months but she doesn't need it she's doing excellent in school so I didn't mean to pay for 3 months and that's why she hasn't been there since June and that was our last payment so I don't understand why September October and November was charged without my authorization.Initial Complaint

On 11/8/2021 I enrolled my almost 15 year old son for Math tutoring much to his objection. I was desperate to get him some help he needed and only found Mathnasium nearby. Prior to enrollment, I told M**** *******, the owner that if I was required to commitment to a 6 month contract that I would not enroll as I knew it was going to be a challenge to get my son there against his will. As anticipated, he fought me - I managed to get him to 3 sessions but with coersion - my son was angry. My son would complain that how is doing 3rd grade work going to help him pass his 9th grade math class which he was failing. I understand that he did not stay very long but in those 2, 90 minute meetings and 1 of 30 minutes - he was still very confused over his current math work. We quickly realized this tutoring was causing my son so much anxiety and distress we found another tutoring that will target his current math needs. This one week with the other tutor has begun to lift his math anxiety as it has helped him understand more of the current lesson. Upon this decision I quickly notified M**** ******* on 11/11/21 via voicemail and email. I asked to cancel immediately and requested a prorated refund and the "binder of work" which I paid $99 for. I returned a call to Mitch on 11/15/21 to discuss a refund and he refused all my requests and said he would not give me the binder also. I paid $613..83, My son attended 3 sessions - this is a cost of $200+ per visit. This is unfair, unjust, and extortion. There was no meeting of the minds regarding the contract as he did not review any of the conditions of canceling nor are there 2 sentient signatures on the contract. I, as a desperate mother took this chance and I am now being punished for trying to help my son. A customer who cancels and is unsatisfied with the product must be refunded, it is foolish to think I am going to gift $613.83 for services I cancelled and was dissatisfied with and received NOTHING in return.Business response

We're thrilled that this student is finally getting what he needs! And we're just as disappointed as this parent that we weren't given any real opportunity to help. There would be no way to adequately address the concerns and complexities of a situation like this through an internet dispute, but we have had multiple conversations - by phone and email - with this family in an attempt to remedy their specific situation and get this student the help he dearly needed. Unfortunately, we were not able to work together to reach a solution that worked for all parties. We stand firmly behind the fact that we have done everything possible to provide the services that were specified clearly - both in conversation and in enrollment paperwork - then paid for and not fully utilized. We did gladly - before this complaint was filed - cancel the remainder of the contract and, going against our terms and conditions, waive all cancellation fees.
