On 7-2-2024, 11am we dropped off our 2019 ****** Crosstrek to get an estimate on rear passenger door damage which Allstate had to review the damage and approve the work to be done. We were told to leave the car there and that they would work with the insurance to see what type of repair would be approved. they called for car rental immediately. I informed the body shop to not to begin any repair work until my ******** reviewed the approved repair by allstate. we got a call on 7 -8-2024 late afternoon that Allstate adjuster provided their damage review/report. I asked **** to send a copy for our review. My wife (************) and I reviewed the report that night n decided to not do the repair at this time after seeing what they were going to do. we then went to body shop to pickup the next morning at 830am n **** (owners son) said that we could not take the car until you paid something, like removal fee of a door moulding which was never removed. ***** (manager) said we needed to pay storage fees for the amount of days the car was at there shop after they called the owner *************************. If we didn't pay the $1050 for storage a lien would be placed on my car. first time any payment needed to be made to release my car when no work has been done. I was upset n in shock. I asked to speak to the owner. he finally came to the shop. **** said I need $800 cash to release your car. held my car hostage. pay or I place a lien on your car. I said no where did you tell me or agree/sign that I would pay any fees. **** said I need to make money we agreed on $700 cash since didn't want to get a lien on my car n didn't want more storage fees to accrue n felt taken advantage. went to bank, made him write a receipt for storage fees. if we would have known up front there were storage fees we would have brought the car back when the body shop n allstate adjuster would review damage. would not take credit card even though his website shows it. very unprofessional business.
