If we could give Viking a zero, we would. This vacation was a nightmare!Viking booked our flights (with no options for upgrades), and our first flight at 6:30am out of ********, ****, in July, 2024 was canceled. The Viking office was not yet open to assist in re-booking, so my husband and I re-booked the flights.When Vikings office finally opened, they PROMISED we would be picked up in the *********, ******, airport to be transported to the ship in ******, ******. Since Viking had booked our flights, Viking had guaranteed we would be given transportation to the ship.When we arrived in *********, no one from Viking was there to pick us up. Viking told us we had to find our own hotel and transportation.We had pre-paid for our cruise, so we lost our payment for the first night on the ship, had to pay $300 extra for a hotel, food, and Uber. Viking did transport us to the ship the next morning.Viking knows of our situation, never apologized until we complained, but has refused to reimburse us for that first night on board or any other expenses. How is this legal? Viking had said if we had made flight arrangements on our own, we would be liable for getting on board, but Viking booked the initial flights, so they should reimburse us. At least one other couple on our cruise had the exact experience when their Viking-booked flights were cancelled.Viking River Cruises, Inc. Response

We took a cruise with Viking it ended up being the worse cruise in our lifetime. One hour wait at airport to round up every passenger on oncoming flights to board a big bus. Than on day 1 the captain who was hopefully driving the ship hits the bridge and we end up in limbo not knowing what is going to happen. Our present was to wake up the next morning in and industrial site with a view of cranes and every truck you can imagine. We had and upgraded cabin with the hope of seeing multiple great ports not a repair site. Our whole schedule is not being manipulate with events cancelled or crammed into one day, not a good idea when the average age is beyond 70 for this venue. Our bus rides to venues our now 90 minutes longer the sad part no one takes the time to give us any idea of how we are moving forward to the last second. we arrive back to the ship one night around ***** exhausted 3rd venue that day or lose it. I hear a loud noise outside my room it is a semi parked outside with the motor running call the front desk I hear them screaming for 5 minutes no one call back the semi was our view and audio for the night outside our room. You cannot make this up have found a ***** of ****** friends they are very classy and know the risk factors for elderly being in a very different time zone after a 17 hour flight. So we flew for 24 hours to enjoy and industrial port for the ship to get repaired for multiple days miss out on venues we will never see again spend over 20 thousand dollars and our offer a 500 dollar courtesy for future cruise. Called customer service hoping this nightmare would be understood it got worse. The person we spoke with was reading canned statements putting us on hold for 30 minutes and making another insulting offer. This was like going to a used care dealership trying to buy a **** ****** We sent the viking executive team a very thoughtful letter and are still waiting to hear back. WARNING!!! Spent the big bucks for the Explorer suite at the back of a long ship on Viking. They dont tell you the suite is directly above the engine room. Could not sleep due to vibration, extreme noise. They found us another cabin to sleep in. This one came with a live BUG in the bed, stained sheets and a BLOOD spot on the pillow. ( we have pictures/video)***************************, CEO, crack **************** team offers a partial credit that requires me to spend more money with Viking Cruise. Kinda like getting food poisoning at a restaurant and they offer you a free dessert the next time you buy a meal. Oh, to get the credit, they have a non- disclosure for you to sign. Viking River Cruise, I paid the full fair from the cruise as well as over ***** each for 2 people. On May 16, I sat patiently with the agent at Viking to get my wife and I seats together. I made the payment for everything in full immediately. on 06/06 I noticed that when I logged into MyViking.com/MyJourney that my seats were no longer selected at all. I called Viking on 06/09 and was told by **************** that he would get it solved but would need until the next day, he sent me an email and asked that I follow up with email as a reminder the next day. I sent 3 emails between 06/10- 06/14. I then sent an email to ******************************* on 06/14. Later that day on 06/14 I got an email from ***** saying he was out, and the flight people are having issues. I called Viking again and started over twice. Once with *************************, and now Lilith. I am asking why Lufthansa maps and Viking maps aren't in alignment for the seats? My wife has return flight seats on Air Canada, but I don't have any seats. Again this was all fixed on 05/16 and now it is a clustered mess. I am mostly frustrated with the lack of response and inaction taken by the flight ***** I feel like I have to do this work for them, and if I don't we will be sitting by the toilets. There was no number for a Viking Complaint ***** Viking apparently has no tracking system of customer issues. It is a terribly innefficient organization. The cruise hasn't started yet and I can't keep Viking from messing up my airline seats. You pay extra money to prebook seats early, and you don't get your moneys worth. Hopefully the trip goes better than the flight booking. I am planning on more trips with Viking in my retirement.Viking River Cruises, Inc. Response

I booked the Passage To ************** river cruise with Viking in March 2024. (Booking number *******). I worked with ************************* who was helpful throughout the process.I received confirmation of the trip and after submitting my final payment, I spoke to ****** and made arrangements for several shore excursions. On May 30 or 31, I contacted ****** as I had not heard anything from Viking. I was told that I did not have a reservation. They had unilaterally cancelled the trip without contacting me. I was told that the payment made in March did not go through. I was also told that they tried to contact me but I do not have record of any contact. During this time, I had lost my cell phone, but my land line did work. I also had used e-mail to contact Viking.****** provided me with his supervisor's name and contact information when he could not assist me further. ************************* and I have exchanged at least 10 e-mails since that contact. It is obvious that contact can be made. ******************** has indicated that there is nothing to be done. I will have lost the cost of the excursions as well as my insurance to protect against cancellation. This trip was important to my husband, *****, and I as it was part of our 26th wedding celebration. At this time, I am at wits ends. I would love to reschedule the trip if we can't have the original date, but I have a hard time accepting that Viking could unilaterally cancel a reservation without notification or making attempts to contact me that had worked in the past. I booked a cruise for my husband and me and another room for our adult son in April. I was encouraged to buy insurance from Viking (cancel for any reason) so I thought this was a smart plan.After paying with an electronic check I started to have second thoughts because of the cost of the trip and other expenses we would have to pay. I called Viking within 24 hours of my booking and cancelled the trip. We paid $10,333.25 for the trip. We were refunded $5,506.56. We believe this is outrageous and this appropriation is unlawful.Viking River Cruises, Inc. Response

My wife and I booked the Romantic Danube river cruise. The booking package included round trip air fare and transfers from the **************** to the ship at the departure port and transfers from the ending port in ********** to the **************. We decided to extend our stay in ****** for an extra 2 days and arranged with Viking to change our return flight by 2 days. They agreed to do so but only for an additional cost of $200, even though they had not yet made any booking for the return flight. While the extra $200 fee was bad enough. But what made it worse was that Viking also cancelled our transfer from the ending port in ********** to the **************. Viking did this on their own initiative, without a request from us and without notifying us except in the confirmation receipt regarding the change to the return flight date. Viking claims it was done since we extended the trip by 2 days, thereby making it our responsibility to get to the airport. We do not expect Viking to get us to the airport on our departure date that is 2 days later. We will make our own arrangements to get to the airport at that time. However, we do expect that they will take us to the ************** on the day the river cruise ends, along with all the other ship passengers that are being transferred from the ship to the airport. We paid for that transfer and we still need to get to ****** from the ship. It doesn't cost Viking anything more to keep us on the transport vehicle that was included and paid for and which most other passengers from the ship will be utilizing at the end of the cruise.Our travel agent tried to get Viking to reinstate the transfer to no avail. I called Viking and spoke with a customer care rep and a supervisor, also to no avail. When my wife got sick in the week before the trip, we decided I would take the Seine River Cruise solo with our friends while she stayed with our daughter. Although I had already paid for a double, Viking told me I had to pay an additional $5000 making my room cost far more than any solo traveler. I don't understand this practice and makes me feel Viking is not a good company to do business with. I hope you agree with me and use another cruise line.Viking River Cruises, Inc. Response

My husband and I signed up for the Rhine getaway with another couple. We are both celebrating 40 years anniversary. We signed up last summer. We just got our flight itinerary on March 28th. We are on different flights coming back home. Our friends have a two hour layover in ******. We have over a five hour layover in *********. When I called to change our flight to our **************, I was told we would have to pay over ***** dollars to switch. Viking representative said that even though we are a group, they dont guarantee same flights. The flights were booked in November. I dont understand this policy at all. Why werent we booked together? Why didnt we get our itinerary right away before prices went up? I am so disappointed with Vikings customer service.Review from sylvia t

I hope someone in a similar situation will read this prior to booking a viking family cruise. There are a lot of things that Viking will never explain to a family prior to a booking. Remember that the viking reps are talented sales persons, and may not represent worst-case scenarios and the pain they can cause.We have travelled on Viking many times before - My elderly parents love cruising and Viking has treated them well in the past. My father is older and we purchased cruise insurance through Viking for him. Viking told us that 100% of the cruise could be refunded if he was unable to travel due to a covered cause.Well, he died. Less than 30 days prior to embarkation. What does Viking cover? ********************* has to be claimed through an outside vendor who is difficult to reach by phone and email. The claim was placed 12 days ago and no response at all, not even to acknowledge receipt of the claim.My dad's cabinmate decided to continue with her plans - dad made it clear that family should continue on the cruise in his memory. Viking then insisted in charging her the single supplement, only there was no single supplement for the category of room he booked, so she would have to pay for the remainder of the cabin, almost $6000. Dad's medical aide, who was sharing a room with a family member, also decided not to go, and the same situation applied to her room. A full penalty was assessed on her space ($3600) AND a single supplement charged to the remaining passenger. All in all, to continue on this cruise, the room prices almost doubled even with one FULLY PAID passenger not travelling.The travel insurance purchased does not cover any single supplement charges assessed due to changes in occupancy.We thought we were "safe" because we purchased complete coverage through the company AND had a covered reason for cancellation. But instead, we ended up having to pay almost double for two rooms. Beware of VIKING and their very shady policies.Viking River Cruises, Inc. Response
