i canceled both my auto and rental policies with Unitrin/Kemper on 10/01/21, they keep debiting my account despite the fact that I canceled. They are asking for proof I got another renter's policy. This is illegal. Renter's insurance is not mandated and I no longer rent, therefore I do not need a renter's policy. I have had several phone calls with them and they refuse to give me my money back. I want to be reimbursed for the money they took. The same for the auto policy. They reported to NY state that I had a lapse in coverage, I had no lapse. They never asked for proof of new coverage until after they debited my account and I called them to ask why they are still taking money out of my account. I will sue them for the return of my money and I will also seek reimbursement for attorney fees.Business response

I do not accept their response at all. On 11/05/21 I received a call from their agent that I needed to provide my request to cancel the policies in writing. I was not told in that phone call that I needed to provide proof of new coverage. I emailed AAA immediately, per their request, advising then again that I was canceling both policies. At no point was I told I needed proof of a new renter's policy. I am no longer renting. What provision does Kemper have in place for someone who is no longer renting? This is absurd. It is bullying. It is bad business. Again I say, I am willing to compromise and have the back date for the renter's policy end on 11/05/21 when I emailed their agent, per their request. I am not the one who dropped the ball here. I have yet to receive a bill for the remaining balance for the auto policy. I don't believe I owe that bill either as my policy was prepaid. I will never do business with Kemper or their affiliates ever again.
