My cat *** *** was bit by an animal in ************ and went missing for 2 1/2 days and then returned. When she returned she started coughing and we noticed multiple small teeth marks and a bit main Bite. By the time she returned she smelled dead and looked like she was getting infected So we went down on 3/5/23 and visited ****** animal urgent care. We got there and they immediately took her to a different room. They told us that she has an abscess that would need surgery to remove it which could help but the best option for her was amputation. They had our whole family feeling frustrated and hopeless thinking our cat would need this amputation that was going to cost **** dollars. We panicked and asked multiple times if we could in any way take care of her at home. They told us that if we took her home and didnt get her to the vet first thing in the morning she would soon go into septic failure. So that if we didnt, they would call animal control service. So after paying the initial exam fee, money for x-rays, and an antibiotic to make her live through the night we went home. The next morning at 7:30 AM there was cops at the door of my girlfriends moms house where we put the address for the vet. They were coming to check for the safety of *** *** and make sure we were not abusing her. We did not take her to the vet as we didnt have money or credit to get a payment plan. So we did what we could at home and three times a day with cleaned her with iodine in salt diluted with water. And we did that for 2 to 3 weeks. Within the first week of us doing that she was leaping she was running around. She was the happiest cat weve ever seen her. It has been about a month since we visited the vet. And the spot where her abscess was is now completely healed, and regrowing hair. I am honestly so infuriated that the vet caused all that emotional damage for nothing. So my goal is to at least get refunded for the $320 that they charged me for them to traumatize my family.Business response

The interpretation of the conversation with the doctor is inaccurate. I understand the situation was stressful, but we feel the patient was treated appropriately given our limitations with funds. We gave a long-acting antibiotic injection, good for **** days, which likely aided in the healing of the wound. Per the doctor's records, we did say if the limb was getting worse and needed further care, that amputation may be best way forward. We also alerted the client that night that a welfare check would be completed, as is our legal duty when we have concerns about follow-up. It sounds like the client did a great job keeping the wound cleaned and *** *** has made a wonderful recovery. This does not mean that more aggressive treatments were unwarranted - it simply means she beat some difficult odds and overcame a challenging wound. There was still a significant risk that she would have declined and gone septic.
A refund is unwarranted in this case - the patient needed and received the examination, radiographs, and medications.
