We took a taxi from *** to our home (18 miles) on 6/12/22 at about 10:30 pm. There were a lot of taxis, it was not a supply/demand thing, and their wasn't a lot of traffic. When we got in the car the window sticker said the *** gate fee charge was $5.03. When our driver started the meter it started at $2.08 and then within two minutes of driving it was at $25.00. We were at $25 before we were even at 1 mile. Then we hit $50 before we were even off of Pea Blvd. When I noticed the $25 and how fast the meter was climbing I tried to talk to the driver and ask him what was going on. He said "I don't set the rules. There are two of you so it's double the cost". I thought he was joking but he wasn't. Then I said "well I would like to be let out then" and he acted like he didn't understand English. Right after this he pointed to a gas station and said "Do you not see gas prices? This is why" And again, I said "well then I'd like to be let out", with no response. My husband said something when the meter hit $50 3 minutes into our ride and he said "I will not go by the meter then, we can work it out when I drop you off". He thing did something to the meter because it stopped increasing so fast. By the time we got home (18 miles *** to ***************) the meter said we had traveled 29 miles and the rate was close to $100. I told him that was not accurate and he said "we have a 24-mile minimum". Then he pulled his calculator on his phone and did some math that didn't make sense which ended up being $72 vs $100. Were so taken back by how confrontational he was and that he now knew where we lived that we just paid and got out of the car.Cab # ***
