I was referred to Flooring by Designs by our landlord. He mentioned that he had used this company a couple of times and that they do good work and are reasonable on the install pricing. Since our landlord was offering to pay for the labor if we purchased the product we deciding to go with his referral. The subfloor at our location was not the greatest and would need to be leveled so our landlord suggested we go with linoleum as it would be more forgiving. When we received the invoice for the install, the amount due for the labor was higher than our landlord expected. He offered to replace the subfloor so that he could save on the labor of leveling the floor. We agreed but we had already paid our portion of the invoice. Our Landlord worked out a deal with Hope to use the money we paid for the leveling material to pay the installer. On 8/8/2022, we paid $2,417.45 for the installation of 405 sq ft of linoleum. Before the linoleum was installed, we spoke with the installer and he reassured us that he would be able to prep the new subfloor in a way that the joints of the plywood would not show through the linoleum. Once the floor was installed we had more than a dozen bubbles in the flooring and three very visible lines the whole length of our dining room from the joints in the subfloor. After several conversations with ****, she offered a refund of $877.00 for the price of the linoleum. She has not issued the refund as promised, first she stated that she would not issue the refund since we would not be replacing the floor with her and now she is stating that she is waiting for the flooring rep to come look at our floor before she can issue the refund since she feels its a product defect not an installation error. Either way, the floor I paid for is not acceptable and I was offered a refund in consideration for the way it looks and now she is unwilling to issue the refund as promised.

      Business response

First of all the vinyl install was complete on a rainy day and because of the humidity that is why there was bubbles, the contrcator explained to ******** that they will desolve in a few days, and ater speaking with the owner of the building ******* he explained to me that he watched the contractor do the job and he said the contractor did a good job , he did a walk through with him and gave him a check. Before I could speak to the owner *******, I had already told ****************** would give her money back for the vinyl with out speaking to the required people involved! After thinking about this whole situation, I felt like I was pushed into agreeing with the customer always being right and just trying to do the right thing. I contacted my vendor to file a claim and I decided that If the vendor feels this is a valid claim and refunds my money, then I will do the same and refund Jennifers money for the vinyl. as of today I still have not heard from the vendor, for I contacted them on Friday and they said because this is out of town it is hard to get a inspector out to look at the vinyl.  At this point I am not willing to refund ******** for the vinyl, I would be willing to give her credit for another product if she buys product from my store, she does not have to use my contrcator, for she was un-happy with his work , but I feel it only fair to say that if she bought this at HomeDepot and or another strore , they would not refund her money after the product has been intsalled. I have a friend who lives in ************* and they went buy last week to see if the vinyl floor is still down and it appears to be still installed and looks good to me. Attached are 2 pictures of her observation! At this point I am still waiting to hear from my vendor about the claim.

      Kind regards, Hope Freund

I am rejecting this response because: ********************* be the owner of the building, but I was the customer in this transaction. ******* gave you a check for $200.00 to pay for the 2 bags of skim coat material as he offered to pay for the install. I am sorry that you feel as though you were being pushed around but that was not my doing.  I can understand why when you keep referring to ******* as the customer / owner and you made a deal with him to keep costs down and then had to work with me when it didnt go well. For some reason you dont want to acknowledge that I was the customer even though I was the one who paid for all the materials and the labor. Im not sure how your friend came by and took pictures as we are not open, our windows have plastic taped on them and we have an alarm system that would have shown someone coming in to take pictures. You have never offered to come by and look at it yourself and obviously do not stand by your work/products. I understand how basic flooring works and that linoleum is a product that will show everything underneath it if it is not installed properly. Its not an issue with the linoleum itself, its an issue with not using enough product to prep the floor for a proper install.

      Sincerely,

      *****************************
