During closing on a my house, my realtor suggested I use a GC he's worked with previously to fix a sagging rafter in the older roof. That was negotiated into closing as the seller would pay for it. Estimate was **** from One Cut. We had a 3rd party structural ********* out to say what needed to be done. That was reflected in the scope of work from One Cut. ******** (owner of One Cut), then proceeded to not follow his own scope of work, using a 4 ton piston **** to push up the roof on unsupported 2x4s and a plaster ceiling. While I was downstairs I heard a pop and watched several cracks run across the plaster. I stopped him before any more damage could be done. After asking if he was following the instructions we discussed, and a couple more conversations around the problem, he said he was doing what he knew how, and the engineer report was an opinion and incorrect. I had to let him go due to this and general lack of knowledge about structural work. We signed paperwork and agreed that he'd pay me back for the money the title company gave him (minus used/lost material - totaling $932.28) net 14 days. He missed that window, then no called/no showed on his own later calendar appt. with me to pay me back. Finally, he mailed me a check, but then put a stop order on the check once it hit my account (after bouncing once). He claims this is due to his checkbook being stolen, but I talked to his bank and they said all they can do is have me file a police report, and cannot confirm or deny this story. He is not communicating well if at all (admits to screening calls and ignoring texts) and is no longer giving timelines which can only lead me to believe he's stealing the money. Reach out with any follow up questions or other needed evidence. Many of the documents I have contain personal info in them and don't fall under the BBB Complaint Submission Terms.
