First General Services in Colorado Springs was suggested by USAA insurance to repair an area on the exterior of my home that was damaged by a tractor during snow plowing. I agreed to have them do it for $4197.95. Three months later nothing had been done with the exception of cashing my check for $2098.97, 50% of the total amount which was a down payment. I spoke with them numerous times with no results. After three months, I informed them that I had found another contractor who has since satisfactorily completed the repair for $1450.00. Early in May (1st week) I asked for my $2098.97 to be returned, and on two occasions was told, "The check will be put in the mail."Today, June 11, I was told that the check was being mailed to me. I'll see. I do not recommend doing business with this company.First General Services Front Range Response

In response to Mr. ***************************** review, we can only apologize. Our standard processes failed and his honesty is appreciated and will be used to improve our accountabilities and communications. We had NO intention of not refunding ********************** deposit and we acknowledge that multiple requests without follow up is unacceptable. His $2098 refund has been fully processed and a personal apology has also been issued.Review from Michael M

First General Services (FGS) installed a new roof on our home. 14 months later, wind ripped off several sections of shingles. (All other roofs in the neighborhood were fine.) The shingle manufacturer, Tamko, determined that the shingles had not been installed per their instructions, which are printed on every package of shingles. So, Tamkos warranty related to wind damage was void at installationforever. Two men from FGS arrived unscheduled and unannounced to fix the roof. We were leaving on vacation. They finished after we left. Two years later, wind ripped off a second area of shinglesabout 21 square feet. (Again, all other roofs in the neighborhood were fine.) FGSs office staff was great: We cant just keep repairing the roof. We need to install it right. An FGS estimator found more loose shingles: Id like to see a new roof up there.First General supervisor: The labor/installation warranty doesnt transfer to a homes new owner. (We bought the house two months after installation.) Supervisor would not send a copy of that warranty, then agreed to send it to satisfy our BBB complaint; never received. Per supervisor, a subcontractor installed the roof. The subcontractor being anonymous, FGSs name is associated with the installation. We hired a different company to repair the second instance of wind damage.Ripped shingles are jagged and dense. When they blow off, they fly far. Were concerned theyll hit somethingor someone. When we sell the house, well have to disclose these wind events and that parts of Tamkos warranty is void, per Tamko, due to improper installation. Its likely that we and First General have the same goala worry-free roof and positive reviewsand could identify the same root cause: the subcontractor. As it is, we have a roof thats subject to wind events (and liabilities), a void manufacturer warranty, and an obligation to disclose these issues at sale. And in balance, First General Services has this negative review.First General Services Front Range Response

Mr. ***********, although we are sympathetic with your issue. You were never our contracted customer. We've never had a contract with you and warranties are simply not transferable. We never received any report or documentation from TAMKO (or from you) regarding their "inspection" and it’s our understanding their determination was made without ever physically inspecting the roof. The roof FGS installed passed inspection by the city and must have passed whoever you hired to perform your pre-purchase home inspection. Again, we are sorry for your unfortunate situation, we did what we thought was right to try to help you, but because we've never had a contract with you and because of reasons previously mentioned, we do not believe there is anything more we can do. We do wish you the best.Review from Paul W

Over the years, I have hired FGS to renovate 3 rental homes and numerous commercial spaces for me and I'm always very pleased with the results. FGS is easy to work with and they are my go to GC for damage/repairs and upgrades for all the properties I manage. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and pricing is fair compared to other larger GCs in Denver.First General Services Front Range Response

This has hands down been the absolute worst professional experience of my entire life! Run as far and as fast as you can away from this company and find someone else because I would not recommend first general to my worst enemy if you pointed a gun at my head. Our home was broken into and completely destroyed. I thought that would be the traumatic part but what these contractors put me through was far worse. USAA sent them out to start and we were put through 16 months of absolute torture dealing with people that were unable to do their job effectively, and told us nothing but lies to cover up their mistakes. My project manager, ******************* even offered me a $500 gift card in exchange for not leaving them a review because he knew how terribly this had all gone. The quality of work was not good and the project managers continually tried to **** their work off onto me. This is not a business you want to work with especially if you are an insurance customer. Our project even with Covid delays shouldve easily been completed within six months however, it took 16 months and it was only finished because I had to follow up on every single item. Do your research and I highly recommend going with a different contractor if you are considering First General.First General Services Front Range Response
