I contracted with an architect for home addition plans. Part of this involved her contracting with an engineer. The architect sent the plans to the engineer who is the subject of this complaint. He delayed for weeks even with a financing deadline looming. He never visited the site and was informed it was a home built in ****. He did his calculations based on a standard foundation and should have known that a house of that age would not have that kind of foundation. He should have visited the site. By the time, we received the engineering, my contractor had to inform me that those engineering calculations had no basis in reality. The engineer made a ***** site visit and recalculated based on the actual stone foundation. At this point we had gotten multiple extensions on the financing due to these engineering issues. Ultimately, the revised plans had no time to integrate due to the late response and we could not get additional extensions on the financing. The project could not be completed. Now I have a $4900 **** for worthless plans $2600 of which is due to engineering. The original plans were worthless and I should not be charged for them. The final plans were delayed by months and came so late that the project could not go through and I should not have to pay for them either. No responsible engineer would make calculations based on assumptions of the foundation when working on a historical house without visiting the site. It is outrageous to charge for structural engineering that was done in this shoddy manner.
