On 8/3 Ace Handyman Service gave an estimate of $2,010 to clean and stain our decks. They said they could get the project on the schedule the following week. I received an estimate for $4,000 from another company. We went with the less expensive estimate and the company that said they could get it completed soon. Neither of these statements were true and seem to be falsely trying to attract customers. When I contacted Ace Handyman to start the work, I was then given an estimate of $3,930 (received 8/24). Instead of continuing to search, I decided to move forward with the project because time was a consideration. We scheduled for September 1-8. The work was not completed on the 9/8 and additional time needed to be scheduled. There was going to be a significant delay in getting the work completed so the General Manager, *********************, offered a discount. The work was completed on 9/29. On 10/3 I expressed my dissatisfaction with the job to ****. The hand-railing was not stained along with many uneven spots. They also dripped stain. Please see pictures for samples. On this call **** offered a $100 discount (for delay) on the project which I thought was ridiculous for an almost $4,000 project. The same day **** went to our residence to examine the job. He contacted me on 10/11 leaving a message stating that the work was done very well and threatening to take us to arbitration or small claims court. The contract (attached) states The satisfaction guarantee means that Contractor will exercise every reasonable effort to satisfy the customer completely which was not even attempted. The contract also states Payment of amount due is conclusive evidence that customer has accepted the work as satisfactory to avoid being taken to court I sent a check with the full payment but stated several times that I do not find the work satisfactory. I would appreciate the support of the Better Business Bureau to get a partial refund for this project.
