Contracted with Black Canyon Landscape to landscape our property. They started mid-May & walked off the job mid-July. We paid them $50,000 To install an irrigation system, a drip system for some areas, plants, shrubs, trees, lawn & decretive gravel. They never completed the irrigation system, they totally messed up the installation of the lawn, its mostly weeds. They walked off the job in mid-July & said they would be back to finish up & never came back. The drip system has no emitters on half of the plants, shrubs & trees. They have lied to us on numerous occasions & ripped us off. Contacted them when the lawn they installed came up weeds & they said let us finish the job before you start complaining & never came back.

      Dear **** *****,
      Re: Letter to the BBC

      Dear ****,

Let me start with saying we are sorry for the perceived lack of communication regarding the timeline to reseed and finish hooking up your irrigation to your dual system.  I developed Covid and unable to work for 3 weeks.

A reminder, you had the option to choose between Sod and Seed, you chose seed and were advised that it would come in patchy and would require further action – I specifically told you 3 to 4 weeks at that time.

When I saw you last, I said we would be back in a few weeks to reseed and address the weeds.
Cliff called 3 weeks to the day after I last saw you to come and do those very things and try to speak to you regarding your complaint to the BBB. He was told to not come back to the property.

      Addressing your specific concerns:
*Every drip line has an emitter, some are connected directly to the pipe and some are at the plant, depending on the plant or tree’s needs.
*Conversations involving hooking up the pump were that there was no rush as you have a dual system, you had the ability to water with domestic.
*No refund will be forth coming as we/you reserve $2000.00 from the bid until completion of the pump hook up and reseed/weed treatment.  I have written that off.

We accommodated every change you requested such as additional plants, change of boarder along roads of the property after the original work was done then had to change it again because it did not meet your HOA requirements, procured the 200 tons of gravel requested in the bid at an additional charge of $30/ton with no additional charge to you.

Not sure why you would feel ripped off or lied to.

      Best wishes to you

      Hello ******,
I did not see the response from Black Canyon Landscape until after the 7-day response time frame. I would like to keep the complaint open because their response is pretty much all lies. Both Amy P**** & Cliff R**** are not honest people they are con artists & crooks. They pray on Senior citizens & need to be put out of business. Under the contract we signed with them it says they will install an irrigation system tied into our ditch water using a 1 1/2 HP sprinkler pump. They placed a 1 HP pump but never hooked it up to the ditch water in violation of the contract. The ***** Cliff R**** could not make the sprinkler timer work with the ditch water sprinkler pump start relay because the units they used aren't compatible. That is when they walked off the job, because Cliff R**** is too stupid to figure out how to make things work. They never said when they would be back & never did come back.
The lawn they were supposed to install is 4500 sq ft, they used one bag of seed which says on the bag is good for 2,665 sq ft of a new lawn. Thats not enough seed, they needed two bags of seed & a seed spreader, the ***** Cliff just threw the seed out there by hand, never raked it in & started watering. Mostly what came up was weeds, I attached a picture of what they installed for us. Does the picture look like something a professional landscape company would do?
I never had a conversation with them about not hooking up the pump to the ditch water, that's another lie from Amy P****. Ditch water is free to us on our property, domestic water cost a bunch of money, like $400 for the one month I used domestic water irrigating the landscape & waiting for these crooks to come back & hook up the pump, which they never did.
I trusted these guy's, let them into our home & let them use our facilities & they screwed us big time. I have an appointment with an attorney & will see what he says, maybe a lawsuit is in the making. Bottom line these guys are crooks & need to be put out of business for the sake of the unsuspecting public. Sincerely,
                                                                           **** *****

      Hello ******,
      In response to ******** **** *****
Again we are sorry Mr. ***** is not happy.

We did have those conversations with ****.

I personally told him we would be back in a few weeks to reseed. Cliff called 3 weeks after that and was told to not come back on the property.

From the start we told him it the lawn would need to be reseed and then in the spring the weeds could
be addressed.  We applied 1 and ¾ bags to the area by hand as we do every seeded lawn - and left the remainder ¼ bag with the client.  We seeded two other properties with in two days of his and they look great – of course they have been mowed and we had the opportunity to reseed one of them, the other didn’t need it.

The pump is a 1 hp pump rather than the 1 1/2hp pump stated in the contract.  The number of zones was increased to make each zone smaller and therefore not need the larger pump. The additional cost of another valve is equivalent to the p**** difference in the two pumps.  There were communication issues between the smart box and the pump that Cliff was in contact with both companies working on a solution and then was told not to come back to the property.
The project was much larger than the lawn and the pump.

          Original invoice was                   $55,553.95
           Senior Discount                       - $ 5,555.40

       Paid         7/19/22                       - $24,761.66
Balance Due should have been        $6,639.86
But because of discount error is       $1,820.20          that has been Written off

Total Discounts applied $11,306.50 plus $1820.20 written off, we were definitely not out to take advantage of anyone. Plus the cost of the 200 tons of rock at $30/ton more, that we covered.
The name calling and slander is not appreciated or tolerated. We too have a lawyer, and it looks like maybe we should pursue.

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because: Amy P**** keeps lying in every response. Amy never responded that they would be back to reseed, the only thing said was "let us finish the project before you complain". Then they never came back. As far as the initial seeding, the bright boy Cliff only used one bag of seed, not two, another lie, they did bring out 2 bags but left with the second bag unopened & took it with them when they walked off the job. One bag is only good for 2,665 sq ft & our lawn area is 4500 sq ft. The contract says 1 1/2 hp pump & they staged a 1 hp pump, walked off & never tied it into the ditch water. Black Canyon Landscape is not honest outfit, they cheat people & do terrible work. Look at the pictures, pictures don't lie but Amy P**** & Cliff R**** do constantly. We trusted them & they screwed us.

      Regards,

      **** *****

-Contract dated Sept 15,2020. Included replacing lawn with rock in some areas, plants lawn surrounding the house and to reseed grass where there is existing grass that died from drought last two years. Changing irrigation to cover said project: Some of the contracted changes were done but not all. There is a lot of weeds in the grass and large gaps where grass has not come up at all. the contract states that irrigation changes that we were told should cover all the grassy and shrubs and flower areas, however there are areas where the grass is not growing due to the water not covering said area or no seed was placed there, (it should have grass in all the grass areas not bare spots). Also the contract calls for wild flower garden and so far no flowers are growing, and it needs to be redone as it looks like just weeds growing and it was supposed to be a large wild flower area. At one point I called for them to come talk to us about these issues but the owners husband yelled at us and said we were lying and stormed out of the house and had not come back for over 2months. We called them over and over to come fix the problems but got no answers. We than saw the owner at the neighbors house and we approached her to come talk to us about the problems. The owner sent her husband to come over and apologize and fix the sprinkler problems. After he left the sprinklers are now hitting all the spots but also the house and the street. We are 94 and 90 years old. Our Son came to visit to try to help us with these issues and did help some, but not all of it. As of this time we still have not had anyone come and fix the errors we have hired people to come and do part of the job they were to do. We not get them to come backtalk to us about any of these problems. We have paid all but $1000.00 and a bill of $200 plus they billed us on working on sprinklers. Which should have been covered by the contract.

      Regarding the ****** Contract. Sept 8 2021 signed Sept 15 2021.
      Line by Line
Reduce Grass (Done) Install ¾”Roaring Fork (Done)
      Flagstone Patio (Done)
      Cobble 2’ from road (done)
Raised Berm with Shrubs and blue spruce topped w/Burg Lava (done)
      Wild Flower seeded area (done)
Irrigation Changed – my representation of this was in the area where we removed grass and installed grass.  (done)  There is a dry spot there in the north seeded area – after investigating someone had wired two zones together – when undone (with your permission) it fixed the issue.
      Seed grass area – (Done)
Reseed – as is normal in our business there is always wash out and areas that don’t grow initially.  I am not willing to send more techs out at our cost to reseed because the consumer will not let us manage the water without interference.   The seed is in the shed.
Wild flower garden – I tried to talk you into putting in plants and fabric to reduce the amount of weeds, when that was a no go I offered to come and weed monthly – no response to that.  The flowers are there growing among the weeds and it has been reseeded.  There was an issue with the water there, it was addressed.
Irrigation clock and heads were set and adjusted to cover all seeded areas – because the areas are not square it requires some of the sprinklers to overspray rock and road to “hit” all the seeded areas.  You have had several people and/or companies in to adjust and at one point even called us to “fix” a valve that someone installed backwards. Because we were working right next door, we could see that the system was only running 1 time per day verse the 3 times it was originally scheduled to run – not giving the seeds the water required.
Every time we responded to your request to adjust: the time and the sprinklers and clock were reset, after the first three times I started billing.  We can’t keep undoing what you had someone else do, at our cost.
We have been there repeatedly to “fix” the issues.
Cliff (the other owner) walked away from you when YOU were yelling at him calling him a liar not the other way around.  We decided early on to always have witnesses in our interactions and do in this case as well.
Sadly, we feel we are not able to remedy the situation to your satisfaction – Your bill will be written off.
Thank you for the opportunity to learn we need better communication and we have subsequently changed wording in our contracts to avoid these issues in the future.
      Regards,
      Cliff and Amy
