I have recently become a member of It's Just Lunch. My biggest complaint so far is that I am being asked to drive too far for the initial lunches. I live in ******. These people continue to try and set me up with people that live in Denver. I have had three so far, and each time I was asked to travel about an hour and a half, so this has been a bit of an issue. The other thing that has bothered me is that It's Just Lunch says one of their main guidelines is to treat their clients in a caring and professional way. I am not feeling that so far. I feel like I am just another number to them. Now, this is very important for everyone to know and understand about this company. It cost $2500 and that it just the upfront fee. Then, there are monthly fees that must be paid continually to be set up with people that live over an hour away. *** tells me that yes this is true, but if you want to make it work, you will make it work. There is her first wrong thought, in my opinion. You should never have to MAKE something work. That is forcing it and in my opinion just flat out wrong. Regardless, I then ask to have my money refunded because this is just not conducive at all to my lifestyle currently. *** then tells me, "nope, sorry, no refunds. Didn't you read that? It states that in the small print". How is this treatng people, clients, with respect. Then, all she, ***, could do was compare me to all of these other people that have made it work. Ok, that's great for them. However, I am not them. Again, I go back to this companies complete lack of respect for there clients. That is unless you are speaking out with complaints.***'s only resolution to this issue was completely removing my from there service while not even refunding me a ***** of the $2500. OK, so where is the respect in that? Lastly, to ALL who read this. If you live in the ****** area, or south of Denver and are not wanting a "long-distance" relationship, DO NOT JOIN IJL.Business Response

We are writing in response to the complaint made by ************. ************ became an Its Just Lunch (IJL) client and signed a non-refundable contract on 5/15/2024. We have attached a copy of his contract for reference.
Mr. ***** complaint centers around geographical location. Mr. ***** contract/ membership agreement specifically states that we are a Denver based service and that dates will be arranged in the Denver area. He agreed to this upon signing his contract and becoming a client. Please see the exact verbiage as it relates to geographical location below,
Client understand that he/she is joining a Denver-based dating service. Client must attend an interview ("Personal Interview"), with an IJL representative either in the Denver ********** or via a video conferencing method, per IJL's approval. Client may receive one Date Introduction before the Personal Interview; however, no second or subsequent dates will be scheduled until the Personal Interview has taken place. All dates will be arranged in the Denver area.
We are surprised by Mr. ***** complaint as his concerns were verbally addressed in a phone call with ***************** on 7/23/24. While ************ expressed frustration with location, *** addressed the concerns and reminded ************ that we are a Denver based service and he did agree to date in Denver upon becoming a client. At the conclusion of that phone conversation, ************ agreed to move forward with the membership. Within the next week ************ went on to file a complaint with the BBB as well as write negative reviews. We have since reached out to ************ to discuss his membership options. We hope to hear back from him and that he will be open to moving forward.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because:I have found two initial discrepancies in regard to the response from IJL. Firstly, This response says that it was stated in the phone interview that this is just a Denver based service. Never in this phone interview was that ever mentioned as *** was fully aware I lived in ******. Now, If it was mentioned, I would have never joined. It wasn't until later, after I joined *** told me on the phone that this was just a Denver based service. This was in response to my frustration that every single one of these dates are coming out of Denver and I didn't know why. This is also deceptive in my opinion. However, this was maybe after the third date and when *** did notify my about the fact this is a Denver based company. Secondly, I had asked *** for a partial refund since I did go on a few dates. Because of this fact I did not feel a full refund would be appropriate. It was at this time *** said to me, Sorry, no refunds. I asked further about it and said this is ridiculous and she just told me that it is written in the small print. Again, in my opinion, that it deceptive. Then after this *** says to me that she can just completely remove me from the list. The list I refer to is the list they use to set people up on dates. Again, she suggested completely kicking me out essentially again while not refunding me a *****, keeping the full $2500.
Lastly, and I truly feel this is IJL now retaliating against me for speaking out. I have tried to reach out myself by leaving messages requesting a reply. And each message I leave goes ignored. Essentially, I have been "ghosted" by these people. Again, they are keeping my money while just pushing me out. So now I do question if this is because I have expressed my unhappiness with this company? I would have to say, yes, this is the case. This was something they said, "He agreed to this upon signing his contract and becoming a client". I say, Yes, to this as this is true but this was under false and misleading pretenses.

We are disappointed by the multiple mistruths and inaccuracies that ************ has provided to the Better Business Bureau. We are happy to provide proper records and documentation to illustrate the facts of the situation.
Mr. ***** claim that he did not know IJL was Denver based is incorrect. ***** to signing his contract, he verbally asked our representative ******* about location and she told him that we are Denver based and that most of the clients he would be meeting would be coming from the Denver Metro area. ************ even replied by making a comment about potentially moving to Denver.
We are unsure exactly what ************ is referring to in regards to removing him from the list. *** absolutely never used those words in her conversation with ************ and we do not have a list. During the conversation ************ and *** had, he communicated he did not want to continue to use the service and wanted a refund. *** explained that a refund was not an option but that ************ could cancel the membership at any time, which would cancel out the future monthly fees. These terms are all outlined in the contract that ************ signed upon becoming a client.
We would never retaliate against a client and we have actually been in contact with ************ multiple times since he filed this complaint. *** and ************ had a call on 8/13 that went over 40 minutes. During this in depth conversation, *** let ************ know that we had our **************************** review the phone call of the interview that took place between ************ and ******* at the time he became a client and that they had in fact verbally discussed that we are Denver based and that most of our clients are in Denver. ************ had to end the call at that time and a follow up call was scheduled for 8/15/24.
In the most recent conversation with ************ on 8/15/24, he agreed to move forward with his membership. *** let ************ know we will be in touch soon to tell him about his next match.
In an effort to show we have been in regular contact with ************, We have included below the timeline of our communications. We are happy to provide phone records to support this data.
Timeline of communication between IJL and ************:
Sunday 7/21 ************ emailed *** outlining his concerns with IJL.
On Monday 7/22, *** responded to the email and a call was set up for Tuesday 7/23.
*** reached out to ************ on 7/23 and at the end of the conversation, ************ expressed wanting to move forward with IJL.
On 8/5, *** reached out to ************ and left a voicemail wanting to discuss his negative online review and BBB complaint.
Later that day, ************ called **** direct line leaving her a voicemail
On 8/6 *** and ************ connected by phone. In this call, ************ told *** that although the contract does state dates will be arranged in Denver, he believed it would have been right for the representative who enrolled him to verbally mention this. *** then requested they pause the conversation, so that she could reach out to the **************************** and request the call with Mr. ***** enrollment be reviewed.
On 8/9 *** called ***** and they scheduled a follow up call for 8/13.
The call on 8/13 ended with ***** indicating that he wanted to move forward but needed to finish the call on 8/15On 8/15 *** spoke with ************ and we are moving forward with his membership.

I am rejecting IJL's response to my complaint. The reason for my rejection is that *** claims to have attempted to contact me by phone. This this may have been through an unidentified number and no voicemail messages were left. In the past phone calls from IJL were have been identified. I request that all correspondence be through email only, as I find phone calls intrusive.
I would appreciate it if IJL could respect my preferred mode of communication and respond to my complaint via email or through BBB.
Sincerely,

I am rejecting this response because:Despite their claim that they have tried to reach out to me, I have not received any communication from them. I need to add this info to my complaint, here are some text messages.Business Response
Date: 08/12/2022
****************** came to our website and filled out a form asking for more information on 6/6/22. The online form includes the following language:
"By clicking GET IN TOUCH, you give Its Just Lunch your consent to use automated or other technology to call, text and e-mail you using the info above, including your wireless number if provided, about IJLs dating programs and special offers. Your consent is not required to make a purchase. You also accept IJLs Terms of Service Agreement and Privacy Policy."
It appears that, in July, ****************** requested to be removed from our records of people seeking more information. Unfortunately, a human error was made and Ms. ******** contact information was not removed. On 8/2/22, believing she was someone who still wanted information on IJL, a different Matchmaker reached out to ****************** again. During that call, ****************** became very upset and again requested to be removed from our records. This matchmaker confirmed with ****************** that she had been removed and we would not contact her again. ****************** went on to file a BBB complaint, as well as write multiple negative reviews against IJL, despite the fact that she has never been an IJL client or received services of any type from our company.
We sincerely apologize to ****************** that an error was made when she originally asked to be removed from our records. We can confirm she has since been removed and we will not contact ****************** again.Initial Complaint

I joined Its Just Lunch, a dating service, a few months ago. They promised at least 2 dates per month with high quality men. They also touted their ability to make dates simple and save lots of time. They promised that there were many high quality men in my age range. I have been on two dates all year. The first date was a bad match and so far off the **** that I threatened to cancel at that point. I did go on one additional date with a man who seemed evasive and possibly of a different socio economic class. I got home, ****** him and found that this man was arrested for having a meth lab. Everyone at the company tried to convince me to go out with him again and give him a chance even though I expressed that would not work being that I have a public job job and children. They do not have high quality men according to anyones standards and have not set me up on any dates since. They stole my money and have not provided service anywhere close to what was promised.Business Response

We are writing in response to the complaint made by ***************************. ************** became an Its Just Lunch (IJL) client and signed a non-refundable contract with us on 3/21/2022. The membership is for month-to-month services with a guarantee of an average minimum of one introduction per month while membership is in active status and active monthly membership dues are being paid. A copy of her signed contract is attached.
After being a Client for less than a month, ************** communicated to three different members of our team that she no longer wanted to schedule any additional dates and demanded a refund. As of that time (4/11/22), she had been on two dates. At that point, the **************** Manager connected with her directly via phone, explained that membership fees are nonrefundable and reviewed the different options ************** had for her membership: (1) continue actively dating, in which case her monthly membership dues would continue, (2) cancel her monthly membership dues, which would effectively expire her membership all-together or (3) take advantage of two months of complimentary hold time that being offered to her, in which case her monthly membership dues would pause until the end of June 2022. ************** responded that she would never go on another date and, ultimately, she hung up the phone. Because ************** abruptly ended the conversation without specifying which option she wanted, a cancelation form was emailed to her (allowing her to easily cancel her monthly membership dues) and her membership was placed on complimentary hold while we awaited either a completed cancellation form or further communication from her.
As of 6/20/22, we had not heard from ************** nor had we received a completed cancellation form from her. At that time, the **************** Manager reached out to her via email to communicate that the complimentary hold time that was provided would be expiring at the end of June. The following options were given to her: (1) activate her membership, which would resume her active monthly membership dues or (2) allow the membership to naturally expire. We received several argumentative replies from **************, yet none of them indicated she was ready to activate her membership and resume her required monthly membership dues. Although her signed agreement authorizes any monthly membership dues charges, given the extreme aggression ************** had displayed previously, the decision was made to not resume them without additional written authorization from her. Because that was never received, her membership naturally expired as of 6/30/22.
It is worth noting that ************** was only charged the monthly membership dues one time on 4/1/22. In total, ************** was a Client for less than 4 months. Throughout our communication with her both via email and on the phone ************** continuously threatened several different forms of retaliation against IJL if we did not provide her with a refund. Again, membership fees are nonrefundable; this policy is detailed in her signed contract. Throughout the process, we reminded ************** that she had only been dating with us for a short time and encouraged her to continue. Were disappointed that we didnt have the opportunity to continue working with her and we wish her the best.Customer Answer

Complaint: 17571280
I am rejecting this response because:
This response perfectly explains why I filed the complaint and why this company has not fulfilled their contractual agreement. On 3/22/22 I paid this company $2,900 for a membership. On 4/2/22, I paid my monthly membership fee to them. Their membership agreement clearly states that they will provide one match per month. I have been a member for four months and received two matches. Admittedly, please see their response, this company put my membership on hold without my permission. They did not have my permission in writing nor did they have it verbally. They have recordings of all communication so there is proof of this fact.
Additionally, this company has used clever search engine optimization to cover up the fact that they have lost not one but TWO class action lawsuits for unethical business practices. Although this is not illegal, it is highly unethical and bad business practices.
Furthermore, in researching the company, I saw that they had a large number of ****** reviews. After they set me up on a date with a person who was arrested for having a meth lab, I opened the reviews and read them only to realize that a very large number of their reviews are from employees and brand new members. That is psychological coercion.
Yes I have been very angry in dealing with this company and let them know that I would be filing a complaint. This company has made n entire business out of gaslighting people and this is another example. Its very difficult to prove that the problem with a dating company is them and not the client.
However, this company very clearly violated their own membership agreement as you can see in black and white. Just like they have done hundreds of times, they stole $3,000 from a single mother who was similar looking for love. Its very sad and if nothing else, I want to make sure that other people dont get scammed by this company.
Sincerely,
***********************
