We hired **** Ambrose (Ambrose Home Builders) to repair our vacation home in *********** in January, 2024 after a power outage caused two pipes to freeze and split even though the water was shut off. When power was restored and we turned the water back on, it began cascading down the walls and ceiling. ****'s bid, which was part of our insurance claim, was to remove damaged drywall in the affected areas, fix the split pipes, replace and match the spackling on new drywall, and then paint the *************** to match the previous color. It seemed easy, and **** was our neighbor of 20 years who had worked on our house in the past...Four months later, **** said he was done, and we drove up to discover our home as a construction zone: work materials all over, an open ladder, sinks full of dirty paint trays, a two-tone wall with new spackle but no paint, Our wood floor had an 18-inch gash down the center, ******************* was piled in different rooms, and EVERYTHING in the house was coated in drywall dust.. We got to work and spent the weekend cleaning, washing, moving furniture and returning the house to normal.Then it got even worse: ****'s wife, who does the company billing, was already hounding us to pay, but they needed to credit our effort from the services they had charged us, and she kept telling me that it was "our choice to finish the project on our own", that "they had done what they had bid", even though we had shared photos of the project mess to our insurance company, and they were shocked by what they saw. After several days of emails and calls, they credited us for a portion of their services, but honestly... we still overpaid them for what was completed.It was a terrible experience, and we cannot recommend Ambrose Home Builders to others. Find another contractor who cares about his work and doesn't leave you to finish your own project or demand that you pay for the work that they admit they didn't even do! How unethical is that?!
