Only leaving 1 star, because of the husband (Gary) who was extremely helpful, but where do I even begin? When my husband and I first moved into our apartment, Maggie was awesome, but as we kept living there it just kept going downhill. It was an older apartment so things would break (expected and we weren’t upset about it), but we would email about repairs just as it stated in our lease agreement and never hear back from her. The first thing to break/stop working was our bathroom vent. At first it wasn’t a huge issue, but the bathroom didn’t have windows so after a week went by you could see the buildup on the walls and ceiling. My husband ended up calling her husband, Gary and it was fixed within the next 48 hours. Then our washer broke, we emailed Maggie to again have no response until we called Gary a week later. He got it replaced within that next week and kept us updated the entire time. Then, soon after the dryer broke. Again, no response from Maggie until we reached out to Gary. The dryer broke almost three months before we moved out & never got replaced (we had to go to a laundromat, which isn’t the biggest deal but if it’s included in what I’m paying monthly then the service should be available). Then, our guest bedroom door handle was broken to the point where we could no longer close it because you never knew if you’d be able to open it again. Again, no response from Maggie until we reached out to Gary and then he came to look at it and said he needed a reinforcer on it. Cool, I thought it would get taken care of. Never did & then she ended up taking the repairs out of our deposit after we moved out (makes no sense since we requested the repair months before we left & her husband had taken a look at it). Aggravating experience, as a landlord it’s HER responsibility to get back to tenants in a timely manner, not her husbands.
Whew, that was our first spot. Then, July of 2020 (during covid) Maggie reaches out to let us know we have 30 days to vacate because the owners wanted to move back in (we also had never violated any lease term agreement). But, she had another property that she offered for us to move into, so we took her up on the offer since housing was super difficult in the middle of a pandemic. It was a great house, it fit our needs and she even offered $150 less for the monthly rent since our situation wasn’t ideal. As we were moving out, we scheduled carpet cleaners and they never showed up, we kept her up to date on their status through out the day (it was scheduled for 10am and then by 7pm they told us nobody could make it out). We told her & she said she could take it out of the deposit and get it done, not an issue, that’s what it’s for. She told us we have been their favorite tenants so she was happy to help & we were extremely grateful and appreciative to her. But, again she did something great and then her service failed us once again. The house was a bit older again so as expected things would break, she said it wouldn’t be an issue to get them fixed. Included in our monthly rent was our trash bill and electricity too. We had our electricity shut off randomly (a few days after paying rent) & when we called Fort Collins power service they said our bill hadn’t been paid in months, which seems weird since we’ve been paying for it on the 1st of every month. Tried to get ahold of her, no answer, nothing. Call Gary and he was able to restore the power within the hour. Twice, TWICE we got notes our trash stating our service hadn’t been paid for so they couldn’t take our trash, then we had to pay out of pocket to have our trash removed because they couldn’t come for another week due to her not paying it. Again, aggravating experience to be paying for a service for months to have it canceled due to non-payment from a Mangenent Company. And that’s not all, as we were vacating our household she was made aware we were leaving early and moving across the country. We didn’t have a forwarding address for our deposit just yet, but we told her we would get it to her as soon as we found a new permanent home. Everything was good until we checked up with her to give her our new address & see when she’d be able to send our deposit. She told us she’d send it out the following week, this was in the middle of August 2021. After a week went by we never received it so my husband reached back out to her & she proceeded to tell us how she’s too busy, she hasn’t found someone to rent out the old house, she has until 60 days to send it and sending her message to let us know was taking time away from the important things she needed to do. First off, rude. Secondly, she told us she would send it then gets mad when we don’t get it and are just checking to see where it’s at. This is after she told us she still hadn’t processed our deposit from the apartment (we moved out July 2020 and moved out of our house July 2021, she had a whole year to process it from the apartment). Makes no sense whatsoever. So we ask her to keep us updated on when she’ll get to it and we’ll wait until the 60 days. Now we’re 58 days away and haven’t heard anything for 30 days, except a package from her husband who sent us some old photos we accidentally left at the house. We reach back out to see when it’ll get to us and she proceeds to tell us that it’s on its way, but we were behind on rent on the apartment (it was covid and she said it was okay to pay what we could, we still made payments every month even when we didn’t have to and then she said if we could vacate within 30 days they wouldn’t need the remainder of the rent) & that the carpets weren’t cleaned which upset the owners (she told us she would take it out of the deposit and handle it so I was confused why it was being brought up again). To put the Cherry on top when she sent our deposit she used my maiden name. The first lease we signed had my maiden name, but when we resigned (3 leases after this one including the house) every document and check had my married name on it. We payed her every month for 3 years and she never noticed my last name changed? Its extremely unprofessional, whether it was that she didn’t care or lacked attention to detail.
She was able to schedule last minute house showings when we still lived there, but when it comes to answering her tenants or getting money back, she could care less. She will never fix anything that breaks, you’ll have to call her husband (let’s hope it’s not an emergency). She’ll be upset with you when you call her out on her incompetence and then make every process after inconvenient and aggravating.
I would’ve recommended them right after we moved out, but after seeing the way she handles business, she is unprofessional, incompetent, and if getting money back to past tenants is so time consuming then she should find a job that better suits a work/life balance.
