Property booked via booking.com. Property required guest to be 40 years old at check-in. I booked the property, and paid in full, on 6/5/22, on behalf of my father-in-law. We had 21 guests staying at the property, and I, as his accountant, was in charge of collecting $70/night from each of the individuals staying. My father-in-law was the one planning on checking in, so I included him on the listing. The property owner, Together In Colorado, insisted 8 days before we stayed that we needed to provide identification and they needed to confirm MY age. Since I'm not 40, they determined this was a 'false booking', and that I needed to submit a $2,500 refundable security deposit (instead of the $300 security deposit that was in the listing) or else they would cancel. Being last minute and having a large group relying on me for their stay, I submitted this payment to the owner, *******************************, through *****, as requested. The number came through as ******************************* on Zelle, which I confirmed is owned by this same individual. Only after doing so, did the property owner CANCEL this booking on us, leaving us with nowhere to stay. On top of that, we had to spent hours working with booking.com in order to get the $4,149.74 payment back, which was returned on 8/12. Our travel dates were 8/15-8/18, so you can see this was rather last minute. The property is refusing to return our security deposit of $2,500, even though they didn't allow us to stay and were the ones that cancelled. Before taking this to small claims court, I figured I'd start with the BBB. I greatly appreciate your assistance.
