My car loan with Credit Union of the Rockies was paid off in full on or around 6/10/2023. I asked to close my account at this time. Later in 2023, after continuing to receive monthly statements, I visited the branch in person to request they close my account. They did not. At the end of June 2024 I received a letter from Credit Union of the Rockies threatening to charge "dormant account fees" for failure to close an inactive account (The one I have repeatedly tried to close), and after a period, my account will be sent to collections. I have called the branch and emailed multiples times in July. Each time I am told either that the account will be closed immediately, or they will send me an account closure request form immediately. I have received no such document, nor other communication and the account has not been closed. I wish to resolve this issue before illegitimate fees are charged, or this case is fraudulently sent to collections, impacting my credit and wasting more of my time and energy.Customer response

Hello,My complaint was resolved shortly after I filed with the BBB. I am still frustrated that it took more than 12 months for Credit Union of the Rockies to simply close my account per my request, and that they went as far as to threaten me with fines and illegitimate debt collections over their error. In the end, they claim this was all due to having misspelled my email address in their records. This ordeal wasted many hours of my time and caused me undue stress. However, if my account is in fact closed now, as claimed in their most recent email to me; there is no further action that I wish to pursue.Respectfully,**********************************
