Purchased a ************** half-stock rifle made 1855-1865 era. When they packed the rifle, a so-called gunsmith decided to put the rifle in a hard plastic case for shipping, that would have been a good idea however the rifle is longer than the case. So he then decides to take the gun apart. The barrel probably has not been out of the stock in at least 100 years, after removing the *********** he pulled the barrel out along with 2 pieces of the wood from the stock. What credible gunsmith would take apart a customers ************************************************* pieces, risking damage to the rifle by taking it apart.I was able to glue the pieces back but the larger piece is very noticeable. The person packing the rifle says the rifle left the gun shop OK You don't have to be rocket scientist to know it happened by him removing the barrel for shipping.Business response

****************** is unwilling to be helped in this situation.
We offered to file a claim with *** as the musket left our shop without any damage and was packaged well as all our shipments do.
The gunsmith we have on staff has 40yrs of gunsmithing experience and is very credible. He wouldn't take something apart and not mention if something had broke during the process.
The complaintant on the other hand put the musket back together with glue. Also to note he wasn't accepting of the true facts and became accusitory to our shop name and gunsmith. The photos taken were a representation of after he attempted to put the rifle together and not immediately after he received the shipment. Which leaves the question did the pieces actually break off during shipping or did this all happen after the complaintant attempt to put the musket back together?
After all this we have attempted to make this customer happy, but he has refused any attempt of rectifying the situation. He pretty much stated he was going to file a complaint and that was the end of the story.
The email attached confirms the statement above. "He's right, we're wrong" in his mind.

***************************I did not think the gun shop would take responsibility, Their so-called gunsmith of 40yrs is also a LIAR the only place this damage could occur is when he was taking it apart to pack the rifle in a smaller box. Why would they even consider taking a customer's 150 yr. old rifle apart. I am also going to write my comments on their web-site. U P S did not damage the rifle Salida Gunshop did!

I have been dealing with the business gunsmith had to return his work 3 times because it was done poorly and unsafe to use. Sat. When I went to pick up my items I was infirmed he no longer wanted to work on My stuff. The problem is the work he did is still not correct and is unsafe. I spoke to the owner was informed I was the 7th person that the gunsmith has done this to. I am out **** dollars because of this man and all the owner can say is " the gunsmith will be better when he gets back from Africa". This doesn't seem right.Business response

We understand the customers position and will refund him his full amount and at this time we will still not be able complete any projects as we don't believe we will be able to meet his standard. At this time we ask that the customer end this complaint with the ******************** so that we can complete his transactions via email/phone and mail him a check asap.
