A few weeks ago, I received a Breitling Chonometre Aerospace analog/digital watch as a gift from a friend. The watch was not new, but was in excellent condition, with no visible marks, scratches, or damage. However, the digital display was blinking periodically, which indicates low battery level.I called several jewelers in the area, and spoke with an employee at Krivanek who assured me they could safely replace the battery in this watch. On Friday, April 5, my wife and daughter went to Salida while I was home working, so I asked my wife to bring the watch to Krivanek to have the battery changed. She did so, paid $20 for the battery and replacement, and came home.I examined the watch as soon as she returned home with it, and immediately noticed that although the display no longer blinked (indicating the battery was now full), there were now three large triangular occlusions that were not previously present across the digital displays, and the display itself was heavily corrupted, with about half the digits no longer displayed correctly. Moreover, the beeping function, which is quite sophisticated on this watch (it can "talk" the time with a series of beeps) is completely broken. When I called Krivanek Jewelers to complain, I spoke with ****. **** said that he would take responsibility for the battery which he had installed (a $10 part), and nothing else. He would not admit that the watch was in working condition when he took it, and would not admit that the broken display was working before. He would not admit that he had done anything wrong, or that he had any responsibility for damaging the watch. From what I can tell, resolving this issue on this watch will take sending it back to Breitling for a complete replacement of the movement and screen, costing somewhere between $800 and $1000. I would like Krivanek Jewelers to pay that repair cost or provide a replacement, as they are directly responsible for the damage to the watch.
