I called ****** after seeing a ********** ad for firewood. I asked if the wood was seasoned or green. ****** replied, "yes, it's seasoned. 8-12% moisture. It has very high BTUs." He said all of those things, and said he could deliver immediately so I ordered 1 cord of wood. He said cash only (red flag) so I went to the ATM.He arrived and dumped the wood on the driveway. I paid him $300 for wood, $30 for delivery and gave a $5 tip and he left. The next day I started stacking the wood. It all fit into my wood shed, with some other green wood. The shed holds **** cords, so the quantity was less than promised.That would have been OK if it were the only issue but i soon noticed the wood did not burn like 8-12% moisture wood - it made lots of smoke and hissed rather than burning with bright hot flames. I started checking pieces and soon saw that less than 1 in 5 pieces was under 12% moisture. I made a spreadsheet and checked about 50 logs. Average moisture was over 30%. FYI, not only does that mean it doesn't burn well, it also means the heat content is much lower because all of the water in the wood has to be heated to boil and evaporated. Mathematically, it works out to about 55% of the BTUs of 1 cord of 10% wood.I tried calling him many times to see if he could resolve this by giving me more wood or a partial refund. He never picked up or responded to my voice mails. I was very frustrated that I spent over $300, and after a day or 2 of fires, I could not get any of the remaining wood to burn, so I had to go acquire actual dry wood to keep my house warm.Unfortunately, I'm doubtful that the BBB can help resolve this but it's worth a shot. I did not record the phone call so I have no proof that he said the wood was seasoned, but that's the honest truth. I have photos of my wood moisture meter showing many green logs.
