Mid November I received a call from a tenant informing that the heating system in his apartment would only start working if he set it at a high temperature (70 degrees). Checked the internet to look for an electrician in Connecticut to do the repair. Called JC Electric, spoke w/Josh and explained I thought the problem was w/the thermostat because the tenant had heat in the apartment. He told me he would be able to stop by the next morning. I was shocked when I received an e-mail from JC Electric charging $350.00 for travelling and onsite trouble shooting and an estimate to do the repair in the amount of $1,131.54. Had Josh had mentioned to me when I called that he charged $350.00 just to check the problem I would have thanked him and hung up. Also, I cannot comprehend why did he not take a thermostat with him since I had mentioned it. I felt that I was being scammed, decided to call another electrician that in minutes replaced two thermostats in the apartment and charged me $170.00 and now everything is working fine. I have not paid the $350.00 because I feel it is not fair that he knows this is a very high charge for a service call and when a prospect customer calls he does not make customer aware about it. I now realized that he was not being honest when purposing to do extensive work that was not necessary.
