My husband , **** and I have been seeing Pulmonologist Dr. Larry W***** regularly for about 6 yrs. Recently, he put a sign in his office that says you must notify them 3 business days in advance if you will not able to make your appt. No exceptions. The fee is $200. My husband went into the hospital Mon, Jan. 22, 2024. He bounced from hospital to rehab, back to hospital and back again to rehab. On the afternoon of Thu, Feb 8, rehab admissions told us **** would be released on Tue, Feb 13. She said he should to see his Primary Care Provider (PCP) within a few days. I said he already had an appt for Wed to see his PCP on Tue, Feb 13. She told me **** would be too tired for that appt. We also had a Pulmonologist appt on Tue, 13 Feb. I called his PCP on Fri, Feb 9 and cancelled his appt. for Tue, Feb 13. I also cancelled the pulmonologist. As his official caregiver I did not feel I should leave **** unattended to go to my appt. after he had just gotten home. He always sees both of us together. The rehab called me on Mon, 12 Feb and said I could pick him up that day because a snowstorm was expected the following day his scheduled release day. I called and canceled our Pulmonologist appt that same day. Dr W***** is billing us $400 because I gave the Drs. Office a 2 business day notification instead of 3. Further, the pulmonologist office was closed on Fri, Feb. 13 due to the snowstorm. He still wants us to pay even though they didn’t open that day. I believe we shouldn’t have to pay due to my husband’s circumstances and the fact his office was closed on the day of our appointment. We are almost 80 yrs old and we have a limited income. If I’m reading the 2 bills right we owe $200 per person. Whether $200 or $400 I think it is unreasonable to pursue us for this money. We otherwise owe him nothing for past appts. We would really appreciate any help you can give us. Thank you ***** and **** *********
