  We recently moved here from out of state and have been working on home renovation projects outside. I was painting ground level window trim (not intending to find a painter until next spring) when a man pulled in and claimed to be a painter handing me his card and asking my intentions. Following our conversation, he said if I wanted to have it done before winter he could start the following week for an agreed upon price. He wrote up a contract agreeing to the following: bleach entire house, spot prime with two finish coats each of siding, trim, and windows as well as painting front door and two side lights. He was to start the first week of November. After the first week of unseasonably mild, sunny weather, I noted many red flags; he was arriving later and leaving earlier than he had stated for his work schedule. That first week, I was surprised to discover he left so early, I texted to inquire why. His words were “I reached my goal and said if Paula can enjoy the day, so can I” (in my phone text), then adding “The sun always rises and so shall we.” As I worked outside I documented his daily work because he never shared daily or weekly goals. I found it odd he jumped from one part of our small home (1780 sq ft) partially painting the first coat then jumping to window trim before he did a complete first coat of siding. In fact, I noted he never did a second coat on the back side. He did not take kindly to my pointing out areas that did not get done, especially why he was hanging storm windows back up with only one coat of paint. Not only this, but his window trims were appalling. He painted onto the glass in such wide swaths, I asked if he could come in to see my view out the windows. He refused. Second week he was to be done but was no where near. I tried to communicate my concerns at that point. He produced such low quality work; one coat on everything, painted over flaking paint. Third week, I questioned his work. He didn’t like that and simply walked away!!
