We called Kneeland in the summer of 2022 when our home Air Conditioning stopped working. The technician (Nate) determined that the existing heat pump was not fixable, and suggested replacing it. We agreed and he installed a new Champion HVAC heat pump. The AC problem was resolved. However, when winter came we found the heat pump does not work correctly. When it turns on, it makes a loud grinding noise for 15 minutes and does not seem to be otherwise running. The HVAC fan however runs, and since the heat pump produces no heat, the fan is actually cooling the house. When the heat pump starts the house is about 68 degrees, but at the end of 15 minutes, it is about 63-65 degrees, depending on how cold it is outside. The air temp moving through the vent approaches 61 degrees. After 15 minutes of grinding, the heat pump begins to work, and the air flow increases gradually to 72 degrees. Eventually the house gets back to about 68 degrees and the heat pump shuts off. This cycle repeats dozens of times a day. The noise is offensively loud and sounds broken, and the constant electric burden is costing us much more than a functional unit should cost. In some cases, the thermostat chooses to turn on the furnace which quickly warms the house (the air flow is > 115 degrees). We began calling in Jan of 2023 asking for them to come and resolve the problem. They put us off for several months despite us calling in several times in the interim. They eventually did come out when the weather was much warmer (so the problem could not be seen), and they did some things that did not help. It is the second winter, and we have made several calls. Most never get answered, and the few answers we do get are either that nothing needs to be fixed or that they will send a technician but he never shows up. We are certain the heat pump is malfunctioning and costing us extra electricity and leaving the house uncomfortable most of the time. We want it fixed or a full refund.
