I hired Justin Emmert of Emmert's Remodeling, LLC to re-do my bathroom and add structural supports in our crawlspace. The cost was $12,000 ($5,000 for the bathroom and $7,000 for the structure). I paid $5,000 upfront. They started the work in September 2022. Justin never told me that he had a full-time job at Electric Boat and that he would be sending 4 young, unexperienced guys to work on my house. The first day, one of them showed up smelling like pot. Justin said that's just their culture. I told him he better not show up to work smelling like that again. The communication between the crew and Justin was horrible. They didn't even know the details of the job. They said not to worry because if they didn't know what to do, they would just facetime Justin and he would walk them through it. Several times they had to borrow our most basic tools: a hammer, screwdriver and wrench. BTW, we never got our hammer back. The used our brand new wheel barrel to mix cement without our permission, they wiped mud on my good towels and spilled white powder on our brand new driveway which didn't wash away. Their work was very shoddy, floor boards were cut too short and their idea of fixing it was just to cover it up with molding. The spacing of the shower tiles are not all the same and the depth is off as well. The tub is not level and the toilet wobbles when you sit on it. The sink handles were installed backwards and it took 2 more times to fix it. For the crawlspace support structures, we had a structural engineer draw up instructions and Justin did not follow them correctly. He made the supports 1' x 2' when they were supposed to be 2' x 2'. The structural engineer wouldn't sign off on the work. Justin came back and re-did it so the structural engineer finally signed off on it. I asked Justin for my money back on the bathroom, he said he would refund me $1,500 (and put it in writing with signature) but never did. I am now in the process of suing him to get my money back.
