I purchased auto insurance from The Hartford in 12/23. I paid for 6 months of coverage. I thought the policy was on auto-pay. It was not. The due date was 6/19/24. I received a reminder via email on 6/12. I received nothing else. Since I didn't see the charge come through on my checking account, I visited my account online on 6/24. My policy was marked as 'expired.' I tried to contact The Hartford and was on hold forever. I was never able to connect with anyone. I visited my account online on 6/25 and the 'expired' note was changed to 'canceled.' There is an option to reinstate the policy online by clicking a button. I clicked and received a message that the policy cannot be reinstated. I paid the overdue amount on 6/24 via ******** ******* on The Hartford web site. The payment shows as 'pending' but I'll have to wait 7-10 days for them to credit back over $800. I received no notification after the 6/12 reminder, no email, no text, no phone call. I finally was able to reach someone 6/25 after being on hold for 20 mins. I was told there is no grace period and they would NOT reinstate my policy. I've never had a ticket in my life, no accidents, no claims, nothing. I went back to *********** and the cost was 50% less. I'll be moving my homeowners insurance to another company as well.Review from Patrick L

I purchased and paid for both STD and LTD, and held the policy for over a year before attempting to use it. When I became injured and was unable to work, they seemed concerned about my well being throughout my use and need for the short term disability insurance, however, as soon as it rolled into LTD things became drastically different. They started acting like my paperwork was insufficient to explain the nature of my disability. It was the same paperwork, why the change? They tried to imply I could do other work. this is employer so why would apply to another employer? They stated that they would offer assistance to me in applying for Social security disability. They did not. They offered no assistance, and paid no long term disability outside of a payment in 01/2023. I ended up being let go from my employer around 09/2023, never once returning to work. I still have yet to return to work, any kind of work actually. I thought that receiving the long term disability insurance coverage would provide the security I needed to explore medical care, specifically chiropractic care, as well pay medical insurance premiums as I wasn't earning income through my employer. But they stopped the moment it became a long term disability case. They treated me like getting injured was my fault, they acted like they needed new and different paperwork. My caseworker became very curt and no longer cared about what I had to say. If you do business with this company, they will likely give you a false sense of security, you'll likely have to get a lawyer to review your case. They might still continue to deny you despite getting a lawyer. You may even have to take them to the supreme court, to get the insurance money you paid for. That's really what it is, you pay them for insurance and they hassle you for using it. They could've been of such great help, but instead all they did was ensure that I wouldn't be able to keep my medical insurance and that I wouldn't be able to go back to workReview from Carlene H

My car was hit by a woman insured by Hartford. I filed a claim, sent the police report and pictures to a representative and is being told they never received it and they can't do anything until they contact their insurer. This happened on May 5, 2024. Her big old front rubber bumper wasn't damaged but my rear damage should be paid for. She ran in back of me at a red light. Why pay insurance if they don't want to cover accidents.Review from Mechele T

I have the Hartford CRITICAL ILLNESS BENEFITS through my employer which I pay out of my pocket for, I have cancer and from my experience they have a loop hole for every claim I have submitted to them which resulted in them denying my claim. I would not recommend anyone to get this coverage it's just a waste of money. They did not provide the policy prior to signing up, the policy is not on their website you have to ask for it. They do not let you see the process of the claims online until they deny it. They tell you to call weekly to check on your claim. Beware folks they just want your money. This is a horrible Insurance Company. NO STARS for The HartfordReview from Gezele M.

On April 12, 2024 I purchased mortgage insurance with the Hartford AARP. My effective date for this policy was May 1, 2024. It wasn't until I looked at my credit card account that I found out on May 24th, my policy had been cancelled. I was thinking I was insured as of May 1st. The reason for the cancellation was that the "inspector" claimed I had a "pitbull". I have had my dog for 10 years and no other insurance company had denied my coverage on that basis. She is a mixed dog with shepherd and lab. I filled out the questionnaire and informed them I had a dog and my dog breed WAS NOT ON THE LIST. So I found myself w/o insurance and the only way you could contact them was with a fax or snail mail. They didn't have an email option because I wanted to send a picture of my dog and her vet paperwork. Hartford is a very unprofessional company and think people should be aware of their business tactics. They should also investigate the insurance adjuster for falsifying paperwork. Last but not least, there method for notifying me was through snail mail which arrived a WHOLE WEEK later. If I hadn't checked my credit card account I would have not known I had no coverage. Thank you! ** *****Review from Aaron D

The Hartford company is a terrible company to work with if you are trying to utilize your company Family Leave benefits. I am currently caring for 2 family members and have submitted all necessary documentation and paperwork, and now I am being requested to send it again before my claim can be started. They are absolutely terrible and I feel bad for anyone that works for a company that utilizes their services.Review from George J

On an insurance claim where I was rear ended and not at fault, The Hartford was the insurance provided by the at fault driver. The Hartford told me I could take my vehicle to any shop I wanted. The shop I chose was not in their network. The Hartford held up the appraisal process for 64 days. Several supplemental reviews took a week or more. It is the Hartford policy to be reviewed in 3 business days. This ultimately led to the Vehicle being totaled due to cost and lack of communication between the Hartford and interested parties. I personally never talked to my adjuster until 60 days of an open claim. The Hartford committed to connect me and my assigned adjuster in 48 hours. I accomplished necessary communication through unassigned customer service reps by calling on my own and escalating as much as possible. Overall it was the worst experience of my life after being rear ended. I can now understand why people lawyer up. If this happens to you, get legal advice right away!Review from Pansy O

I'd go with minus 5 if I could. They have drug this process out so long, that I've now been out of work for a year, this month. And no resolution. You pay for insurance, hoping that you never need it. But when you do, they deny your claim. They gladly take your money, with no intentions of ever being there to help you. I pay for this, and they keep denying me?!! This is ridiculous!! Their analyst's either don't know what they're doing. Or they know exactly what they're doing, by starving you out. Force you to find a job, so they can deny your claim, because your working, so you must be able to!! They denied me, and when I filled for an appeal, the exact same analyst was in charge of that as well! When she got tired of me calling, and asking for her to contact me, ( which she never did) she pushed my claim to another analyst. Which??? You guessed it, gave them another 30-45 days to review it, after asking for more medical records. I'd like to know, does this ever end? Do they ever approve anyone?! I'm waiting for them to request urine, blood, and fecies samples.Review from Jean A

The Hartford stole money from my checking account. They do not respond when I try to communicate with them. Per phone call on 5/16/2024, I was told that they would refund my money, It has not been refunded. The amount I am talking about is $597.00. It happened on May 13, 2024. Today it is 6/1/2024. I'm calling it fraud and I need all of my money returned immediately.Review from Charity G

The Hartford is a terrible company to provide Long Term Disability insurance. Unfair practices, will not respond to questions. The Hartford breached my personal information including social security # and will not speak to me about it. The Hartford dropped my coverage after receiving Social Security. Exhausting appeal process.
