On Christmas 12/25/22 I booked a hotel on *********** for the Holiday Inn located in New London, *** Upon checking into the hotel I asked the manager who checked me in to please give me a room located on the top floor which was the 5th floor. The manager told me that they had some issues with housekeeping and that the rooms on the 5th floor weren't cleaned and instead assigned me a room on the 4th floor. After exiting the elevator onto the 4th floor I could immediately smell cigarette smoke and what smelled like marijuana. Once I got into the room I immediately cleaned the bathroom with the cleaning products that I brought with me because I wanted to disinfect the bathroom before taking a bath in the bathtub. After taking a bath I put on brand new pajamas that I received as a Christmas gift. I was so fatigued from the almost 2 hour bath that I immediately got into the bed afterwards and laid down on my back. At some point I turned around onto my stomach, putting my head face down into the pillows and noticed that the pillow and sheets smelled like dirty laundry. The bedding smelled so bad that the smell was all over my new pajamas that no longer smelled clean. I called down to the front desk 3 times but no one answered the telephone. I went down to the front desk to find the front desk employee laying on a couch with his feet up, under a blanket, on a video call with someone. When I complained that the sheets and pillows smelled as if they hadn't been washed I was told that the only thing that could be done at that time was to move me into another room since the manager wasn't available. I was also told that the manager would be in the following morning and that I should come back then in order to speak with him. I agreed to move to another room and was given another room key. The room I was moved to was right beside the first room I was given on the 4th floor. Upon entering the new room, I immediately went over to the bed to smell the sheets and discovered that those sheets and pillows also smelled as if they hadn't been washed and also wreaked. The sheets smelled like mildew. I called the front desk again and was told that there was nothing further they could do and that I would need to speak with the manager the following morning once he came in. Afterwards, I cleaned the bathroom in the second room before having to shower again because not only did my pajamas wreak smelling like the sheets from the room before but now the smell was on my body too. I couldn't sleep on the bed so instead I took one of the only clean smelling towels from the bathroom and used it to put over the desk chair and sat in it. I didn't sleep the entire time I was in the room. The following morning, on 12/26/22,= when I checked out there was another staff member at the front desk and I asked her to speak with the manager and explained to her what transpired. I was told to call the manager later that day. I asked the front staff to please call the manager but she was reluctant to do so. I told her that I would be leaving a bad review, contacting the Better Business Bureau to file a complaint and also contacting the Health Department. A few hours later another charge appeared on my debit card for $250. I called The Holiday Inn and finally was able to speak with the manager. When I asked the manager why in addition to the $107.64 charge for the hotel room and the extra $100 hold on my card for a deposit, why was I charged $250 which he told me was because the room smelled like smoke. I told the manager that the entire 4th floor smelled of smoke when I got off the elevator and requested a refund for the $250 additional dollars I was charged. The manager refused to give me money back. On 12/28/22 another pending charge was placed on my debit card $207.64 making the total amount of money pending on my debit card $665.28. Attached please find a screenshot of the final charges to my account which was for $107.64 and $250.00.
