We stayed at the Niantic Inn on the evening of March 17, 2023. The price we booked online on January 10, 2023 did not match the price we were given at check in. The booking email confirmed that the final cost due at time of check in would be $113.85, but when we arrived, we were told we had to pay $183.85. After much back and forth, the employee at the desk offered us a "generous discount" of $10, so we paid $173.85 for the room, still $60 more than our initial confirmation email. I presented said email, but the person at the desk insisted that "if we were trying to book a room that night, it would cost $183." However, we booked well in advance to avoid the cost of booking the night of. We were told the deal we booked no longer existed because the hotel changed hands in October, despite us booking through the website in January and never receiving any kind of update about the change. Later when I spoke to the employee at the front desk again, she changed her story, saying the business changed hands as recently as February and that the last time said room deal had been booked was in October. We were also put into an efficiency king, but booked a cheaper studio king. When I asked about that, I was told those rooms no longer existed, despite the fact that I was able to book that size room through the website back in January. Then when I looked on the website and told the employee it was still available to book, she changed her story yet again and told me all those rooms were booked for the night. The employee was incredibly rude and patronizing and continued to emphasize that if I tried to book that evening, the price would be $183. However, we booked in advance to avoid that. I reached out to the hotel to resolve the issue and their solution was not to offer us a refund for the portion we overpaid, but rather a $25 discount on our next trip. I have no intention of returning to this inn due to our treatment.
