      I was impressed with the Pakayak Bluefin 142, but had no way to test it out. "Great!," I thought! "I can order it, knowing I can send it back for a refund if it doesn't work out." When I got it, I assembled it on carpet to try it out. It seemed pretty good, but I am 6' 3" and the legroom wasn't quite what I wanted. But I could live with it. So my wife and I took it to a nearby lake. We assembled it, and carried it into the water. Uh oh, it was just too tippy for me. We carried it out, disassembled it, and I very carefully repacked it and asked for an RMA number. To my surprise I received a somewhat stern letter saying that they could see in my photos it was damaged (it was exactly as I had received it) and that they might only give me half in return. "Surely they will see it is not damaged," thought I. So I sent it back. Then I received a response saying that the damage was irreparable, complete with photos of damage it did not have when it left me. Pakayak is crediting my card -$997.72. I have spent $1,165.14, and also $369.21 for UPS and insurance to return it to Pakayak. The later expense is legit. But the $1,165.14. I wish someone had warned me, the way I am warning you! Do not order a Pakayak product, unless you are totally sure!!!!! Profile image

      We are sorry the Bluefin 142 did not work for this customer. However, our return policy is on our website and clearly states the return must be in “like new condition”. We could see from the photos that he uploaded to the return request that the kayak had extensive wear on all parts. We communicated our observations to him and advised him that his refund would be reduced by up to 50% if the damage was not repairable. We also advised him that he could have a much better outcome if he sold the kayak privately. Nevertheless, the kayak was returned to us with extensive wear and damage that was irreparable. We strive to be open and transparent with our customers and to give them the highest level of customer service. We deeply regret when the final outcome is less than satisfactory yet unavoidable.

      Dear potential purchasers, I assembled the kayak three times. Once on my carpeted office. The second time was on the edge of a nearby lake, and my wife and I didn't take it more than thirty feet to the edge to the water. I packed it up carefully using the same material and method they had used. Their comment above is "Nevertheless, the kayak was returned to us with extensive wear and damage that was irreparable." They said the same thing when I sent them photos that showed the kayak assembled the third time on the carpeted floor before being returned. They said seeing those two photos that it showed extensive damage. They showed the kayak as it was, in the same condition I received it. Be careful with this company. They had decided before they ever got the kayak back that they were going to stick me only a 50% credit. I wish I could show you those two photos, but I don't see how I can post photos here.
