My husband and I hired this business to install wooden stairs. The project manager Joe Shefer was recommended because he was supposed to be a great carpenter. We like the gentleman so we hired him to do the job. The day the project started he came with two workers who were in their early to mid twenties. They were very polite and Joe gave them some instructions and then he left. The guys were not very inexperienced carpenters and little things like gaps because the wood was not cut with proper measurements, nails sticking out the stairs, hand rails were not sanded enough and you can feel it running your hands down them, some of the kick boards were not sanded and only one coat of polyurethane was applied and we were told three coats would be applied. The landing wood slabs are different heights. My husband said something to Joe about the gaps and he said he would have them corrected along with the other issues. He only came one more time to tell us they would not be back to finish the stairs for a week which turned into ten days as he was going on a vacation. After five weeks the kids said they were done. But they hadn’t fixed anything. I called Joe several times and he said he would send someone over to fix the issues Fout times they didn’t show. I called Joe again and he told me I was being a bitch and he was short on help and what did I expect from him. I told him that was not my problem and didn’t I have the right to be a happy customer. I asked him to please just come and look for himself and he would see the issues I have with what the kids did wrong. He was here two times throughout the job and never saw the finished job. We never heard from him again and we are very disappointed and not satisfied with the work. We paid good money for the stairs and it’s embarrassing when people come to the house and say “wow who did the stairs because it looks like an amateur did the job”. Now we have to hire someone else to fix the stairs.
