We signed a contract with this company who is owned by Mr Robert L*** who previously lived in ******* **. The job his company was to do was install a new window, paint the exterior of our house and install a new walk-in-closet and home office space. He started the work and we paid him already about 80% of the money upfront but he only finished about 20% of the work. He partially finished the window but all of the other above mentioned jobs are not done yet. We have reached out countless times fir several months as there is no more progress but he disappeared, is unresponsive, messages don’t go through and the phone is disconnected. Also nobody is at his office anymore in ********* *** His sub contractor just told us today he is no longer in business and screwed over many clients who he owes hundreds of thousands of dollars.

We hired RNL to 1) build a laundry closet next to a small upstairs bathroom, 2) refinish that bathroom, and 3) finish parts of our gutted basement. We were expecting our first child on Feb. 10th, so emphasized the urgency when getting bids. RNL gave a range of 8-12 weeks to complete everything. We chose RNL over competing bids, in large part because the timeline seemed realistic, and quickly signed the contract (late October) to ensure the project would finish before our baby arrived. The contract guaranteed completion by Jan. 14th. By December I was getting nervous because the laundry/bathroom were right outside the baby’s room and there was very little progress, but I was told on December 13th that they were “not concerned about having that completed by the end of January” and that it “won’t be a problem.” Only 2 days of demo were done by the end of December. Our baby arrived early on Jan. 25 and the project was still nowhere near complete–only the bathroom/laundry rough was done (and some still needed correcting later). The laundry/bathroom project dragged on through March, ruining my wife’s maternity leave by making the area outside our bedroom and the nursery a loud and dirty construction zone. The basement portion of the project didn’t start until March and was only completed by mid July (more than half a year past due) after repeated failures to deliver on ever-changing completion dates (March, then April, then May) and multiple failed inspections (insulation twice, then final once). Throughout the entire project I had to flag errors and shoddy workmanship (e.g., incorrect framing, poorly done drywall, missing items). Throughout the whole process, no substantive explanations or meaningful apologies were given for delays other than COVID/labor shortages. In hindsight I should have canceled our contract in January when almost nothing had been done by the promised date.
