Hello, I’m writing to request a refund of membership fee of $172.2 from American Sociological Association (ASA). This fee was required to pay to attend ASA’s annual conference. I was not able to attend because ASA refused my entry. The ASA annual conference was hold on Aug 5 this year. I planned my whole trip and travelled across the country from North Carolina to Los Angeles to attend the conference. But I was refused to enter the conference at last moment because the ASA staffs told me I was “not fully vaccinated”. However, I was fully vaccinated since 2021 (I had two ****** doses). Only till the moment I was going to enter the conference building I was told by ASA staffs that fully vaccinated meant “including two booster according to them. Which is different than the definition from CDC and **** Clinic (refer to links below): *********************************************************** **************************************************************** After I checked back all my 15 emails from ASA this year, ASA did NOT provide a Due Notice. The only email that mentioned booster is on July 20, two weeks before the conferences (whereas I already booked my trip on July 10), using an almost unnoticeable font and place. Because of their ambiguous communication, it lead to a huge cost on me financially (I spent more than 2,500 dollars for the flight and the hotel just for attending the conference), and put my tremendous time and energy in vain. There were many other details of ASA’s negligence which are not stated further here. Since I did not attend the conference, I am requesting for a refund for the membership fee of $172.2. However, it was rejected. Then I sent another email about 40 days ago, but I have not heard any response since then. The fee of $172.2 cannot even be compared with the loss ASA caused on me, but I’m seeking justice by asking an intervention here.
