      Business response

      03/07/2024

      1. ***** ***** originally contacted us on October 3rd of 2023. He had purchased a boat from a customer of ours who had passed away. We had service records on the boat from 2020. The work was performed for him extremely quickly since he wanted to use the boat immediately. We usually have a turnaround time of 4 weeks but performed the work in 6 days.

      2. The normal time for repair/replacement of a water pump is 3-5 hours. I talked to Lingo marine (Millsboro Delaware) and they agreed fully with my final pricing on this invoice. The price they quoted him of $400 was for an average installation of water pump and not the additional time that may have been needed to do the job and it did not cover parts, labor only, If you look at my pricing you will see that I charged him for 5 hours labor. That was about an hour to an hour and half more than an easy repair due to the nature of the job.

      3. Mr. ***** came in to pickup his boat very belligerent. I had emailed a friend of his the final invoice because Mr ***** told me he did not have an email address. He thought the bill should be less. I charged him for the exact time we had in the job, which was very difficult because the previous owner hadn't done the water pump maintenance as required and the bolts were difficult to remove. The parts and labor charged were fair to all, I need to charge for the time we have in a job and the parts we use. I only ask that the customer pay me for what we do. He felt he shouldn't have to pay it. That does not mean that the invoice was incorrect or unjust. Mr ***** spoke to me horribly, which I do not need to condone. My name is not Jill, it is Liberty. Mr ***** lives on ******* ****** in Allentown Pennsylvania, so I would think he could remember my name. Again, I will not tolerate a customer raising their voice and trying to threaten me.

      4. The reason I never responded to Mr *****'s text messages is because I had to block his phone number. He is the only person I have ever had to do that for. I reserve the right to deny service to anyone who is violent and harassing towards me, especially when I feel threatened. And after helping him out greatly. We did a great service by turning this job over for him so quickly. We were indeed in our busiest season, and my husband graciously ran this boat through the shop very quickly for Mr *****. It's obvious by his behavior that he did not appreciate the work we did, the time frame we did it in, or value us as a business. The repair was thorough. The job was good.

      5. Please see our Google reviews. We are highly appreciated by our customers.

      6. This response may be seen as late but this communication today, March 7, 2024 was the first email I have seen from the BBB regarding this case.

Better Business Bureau: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to my complaint and have determined that this does not resolve my  issue.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. **In order for the bureau to continue to assist you, you MUST provide your view on the matter or your complaint will be closed as answered.Dear BBB of Delaware:   Briefly,  It has become obvious that Andy's Boat Repair is not to my satisfaction on the matter of over billing. As I over all see it, this matter is has a lot of hearsay against the more outstanding feature  of fact (s) in the billing.   Andy's Boat Repair is a small business and appears to have not much in the line of overhead as compared to larger businesses. Also in my research on the web to find what marine mechanics in Delaware are paid is from $18 to $40 an hour. Not $125.00 an hour as the bill indicates.   Again, I would ask for a partial reimbursement to resolve the matter.   I would also ask Andy's to post the labor cost in their shop as well as on their web sight ( it would prove more ethical).    Thank you for your considerations and timely responses. Regards, Complaint ID: 21335925
