Mr. Pierce a general contractor provided a quote for the work 2b cmpl in our residence in New Castle County, it was a plumbing leak (in a small kitchen), and 2 repair a small portion of the ceiling, the damaged portion only. He provided us with a quote, which incl the est. range. The qte incld 3 single line items: leak search w/demo, drywall repair + plumbing repair. The plumber came n completed his part 2/3 while he was wking the plumber shd his price (the invoice from Mr. Pierce was over 100% increase than the amt the plumber shrd his amt/rate is). Mr. Pierce came in to cmpl his portion of the work 1/3, the drywall repair only. After wk was cmpl, he emailed the invoice which appeared 2b on the higher end of his quote. It had the same 3 single line items as the qte and $15-$40 for materials. Here is our lesson learned. It appeared Mr. Pierce had an amt he wantedn the invoices since then reflected that perception. Obtain clarity on the est. quote. Ex, will you hv to pay for their gas/trans 2 travel 2 u'rehome 2 complete the wk, esp when it’s less than 50m. Confirm n validate the req license #s beyond a bus license, the required credentials based on state or county requirements for contractors. We recvd the bus lic but not his state or county contractor license. Get est cost for mat and what wld make that change from $40 to approx $200 n what is the cost of labor. The $685 for labor only 2 patch drywall seemed excessive considering the addl charges ( it smed we were paying twice for items).In our opinion, a better operating system wld be a plus for invoicing n itemization and this wld assist with transparency so that the client had the oppor 2 make an informed decision n not be surprised by hidden charges. side note, when a client says, “we are not ready at this time to do this work” , off a paymt plan or telling us u r willing to wrk with us does nt equate 2 being flexible with the client. It means you are eager to wk, do not confuse flexibility with eagerness.
