I hired Best Price Roofing to replace my roof and during the process, I incurred water damage to my wooden floor and drywall in the master bedroom. They assured me as the water was pouring for days into my house that they would take care of any repairs and make sure it was better than they found it were their exact words. They agreed to the price of $2,100 but then sent me a revised final invoice for the roof which included $960.00 of additional work that had never been mentioned until they received my repair invoice. So basically they charged me for damaging the interior of my home. This final invoice wasn't sent until 11/5/2021, unfortunately I have had a few health issues and have not been able to address this sooner. The invoice they sent is not even accurate the original price for the roof was $18,221.00, they originally were scheduled to start in Nov 2020, but I requested that they give me a few weeks to have the house painted and notified then on 12/18/2020 that anytime after the first of the year would be fine. I didn't hear back from them and on Jan 15th I contacted the salesman to see when they would be starting as I hadn't heard anything, only to be told that now there was a price increase of $900, which after a month or more of them looking for different material to match the price we agreed on splitting the difference at $450. Really it was their fault for not putting the order in before the first of the year, but I agreed to the $450 so I'm not going back on my word. But I do want $1,700 reimbursed for repairing the damage they did to the interior of my home, which is the correct amount if I am giving them the additional $450. My calculations original price $18,221+450= 18,671, I paid $500 deposit I financed 17,782.30 with they have received which would have left me owing them $ 388.70, if that amount is subtracted from the $2,100 repair they still owe me $1,700, how they have a 0 balance on the invoice is beyond me.

      Business response

      07/13/2022

Business Response /* (1000, 9, 2022/05/16) */ My client had a shingle roof on her house and was deciding if she wanted to go back with a shingle roof or perhaps a metal roof at the time we inspected her roof. On October 26,2020 a contract was signed with the client in the amount of $18,221.00 for a metal roof but no color was picked at the time. During the next few weeks, the client went back and forth if she really wanted a metal roof so she asked us to wait on color of metal roof till she decides between shingle or metal roof. During that time the client emailed us on 12/7/20 that she is having chimney issues that would need to be fixed before we started the roof which caused another delay on her roof install outside of NOt receiving color of roof she had chosen. By the time she decided on a metal roof and color for her metal roof there was a price increase of $900 which is out of our control with our supply yard. We informed the client about a price increase and she was NOt a happy camper she my office decided to swallow half the cost of price increase but informed her that unless she decided on a color for her roof we could NOT guarantee the current price. She decided on metal roof color and her roof was scheduled for April 2021 install. During the process of roof install, there was a small leak that occured in April 2021 and we did tell the cient that we would take care of the leak and ANY damage done to her property due to the leak. Not too long after, we scheduled the drywall damage to be repaired BUT the client refused and wanted ONLY her contractors to fix ANY and ALL damage done due to the leak. She emailed my office a price of $2100 to fix ALL damage done to her drywall and flooring which in turn I agreed to her purposal. The final invoice balance was $19631.00 due to some additional cost to her roof work as contract says that we will tear off ONLY 1 layer of shingles and underlayment and her roof had 4 layers of underlayment which added another cost of $960.00 to her total contract. Upon receiving her purposal of $2100.00 to fix water leak damage, I deducted the $2100.00 from the final balance due. I believe that we DID treat her fairly as we agreed to her terms but now she is asking for more of a refund. I do NOT think her request is fair, BUT I will agree to reimburse her $750.00 in the hopes of satisfying her complaint and closing out this case. Sincerely - Management Team Consumer Response /* (3000, 11, 2022/05/23) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) I realize the vendor has many clients and therefore might have some of the details incorrect, let me reiterate. Yes, I signed a contract for $18,221 on 10/26 for a new Metal roof and the color was selected not on the contract dated 10/26 but shortly after, as they initially had the install scheduled for the beginning of December from my communication with Mike my salesman and yes I asked for a slight delay because of the chimney repair. But I also emailed them on 12/18 and advised that I would be ready on Jan 1, 2021 and got a reply that she Sarah would notify Mike and scheduling. On Jan 15th I contact the salesman to find out when they would be starting, his response was they were waiting on me, I forwarded my 12/18/20 email to him. Shortly after he informed me that the metal price had increased $900, so he said that he would find another manufacturer so they could honor the original price, that's where the color issue started as they couldn't find a good match and after weeks of going back and forth and then discussing possibly not going with a metal roof, I decided to accept paying half of the increase and proceed with my original roof choice. My belief is if they would have ordered the material shortly after my 12/18/20 email I would not have incurred the additional charge, their delay or miscommunication caused the issue not me. There was actually 2 leaks during the April 2021 install a small leak in the living room that I told them I would ignore, but the leak in the master bedroom was severe lasting through 2 days of rain, I have a video of the water pouring down my wall I did my best to protect my wooden floors but couldn't help the damage. I refused their repair of my bedroom drywall as their handyman was only going to put spackle over the wet drywall, he came twice with a container of mud and a trowel, only after I said no did he say that he could replace the drywall but didn't have the equipment to match the texture and would be trying to do it with a roller. That's when I refused the repair, he also came on 5/27 with a flooring person that was supposed to get back with me on the floor repair and I never heard another word from them until Sarah called me on 9/21 asking if I had the repairs done. I explained that I was waiting to hear from them on the floor and then just said I would handle the repairs. On 9/29 I emailed them the estimates, I received a response back that management agreed on 9/30 that's when I received the adjusted invoice with the additional charge of $960.00 even though they deducted the $2,100 they were still requesting an additional $1,038.70. Which when I sent them the correct figures of what I had paid and financed they sent me another invoice just marked paid. I appreciate their offer of $700 but that doesn't cover the damage done during the installation, I just had a roof done on another home and it sat with peel and stick for over a month through many rain storms and didn't have a bit of damage. If they were not finishing the peel and sick in the dark it probably wouldn't have leaked, who replaces a roof in the dark. If they would have sent me the invoice right after completion or would have mentioned the extra work /removal during the process I was home while it was being done, I might feel differently. But since the charge didn't appear until they got my repair estimates I feel they padded the invoice so that they could avoid paying for the damage they let happen. Therefore I am still requesting $1,700, I hope that we can settle this with the help of the BBB, otherwise I am prepared to go to court with my video and pictures of the damage, including all the different invoices, emails and text communication I have saved. Thank you for the opportunity to settle this amicably... Business Response /* (4000, 18, 2022/06/15) */ The client appears to have her contract and final invoice balance due wrong. Original contract price was $18,221.00 and due to her delay of months in choosing her metal color there was a price increase of $900 with the manufacture which we agreed to split the difference which came out to $450.00 each. New contract price was $18,671.00 with additional cost of $960.00 for 3 more layers of underlayment that had to be torn off her roof which left amount of new contract balance of $19,631.00. I will agree to waive the $960.00 for the additional charges for the underlayment leaving a balance of $18,671.00. After her payment of $17,531.00, there was a balance due of $1140.00. If we were to apply the $2100.00 request she has made for cost to repair damage to flooring and drywall, there is a balance credit due her of $1140.00 and NOT $2100.00. I will agree to pay her the $1140.00 in order to resolve matter at hand. Thanks...Ray Consumer Response /* (4200, 20, 2022/06/23) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) My response is based and calculated on the merchants last rebuttal. The original contract was for $18221.00 and I did agree to pay the additional $450.00 for the manufacturers price increase. So that totals $18,671.00 and I financed $17,782.30 and had also given an initial check for $500.00 as a deposit which the merchant doesn't seem to acknowledge. Therefore I paid them a total of $18,282.30 I'm attaching both the financing agreement and the receipt I have from the merchant for the $500.00. I appreciate the merchant waiving the $960.00 of additional charges as the extra work was never mentioned during the roofing process and I was home and had many conversations with the salesman and crew because of the leak and damage that incurred. I also have an email from the merchant agreeing to the $2,100.00 repair cost so using the $18671.00 that we both have herein agreed was the cost of the roof and subtract my payment of $18,282.00 (omitting the .30) leaves me owing the merchant $389.00 and if you subtract that from the $2,100.00 repair cost I am due $1,711.00 for water damage. If the merchant received less than what their finance company is charging me for then that's another issue that needs to be resolved. Thank you, *****
