I decided to hire a painter in August and I got 3 bids. David ****** came from Angi (Angi's List). On September 3 I gave him $1500 per contract agreement. He said he would start labor day (Monday). He had company so he said Tuesday, then he said Wednesday, then he said Friday. That day he said he fell off a ladder and hurt his ankle. First call to Angi that evening. Monday he again no showed and while I was talking to representative from Angie's List Mr. ****** called and said his ankle was worse than he thought. He knew I was going out of town so we agreed that he would come October 19, 20 and 21 to do the job. He said he would deduct $600 from the cost because of the 5 no shows. October 19 he said he was coming at 8:00 and he came at 10:15. Him and his helper worked 2 hours. Before leaving he asked for a draw (which wasn't in the contract). He'd only worked 2 hours and he wanted another $500. I felt he intimidated and bullied me into giving it to him. He asked to see my copy of the contract so he could take a picture of it and he "stole" it. He was supposed to come the next day at 8:00 and he arrived 9:30. I asked why he took my contract and he said "his fiancée was retyping it". They worked 7 hours that day. He said he wasn't coming the next day because he was getting a vasectomy but his helper Junior came. Thursday afternoon I asked how the vasectomy went and he didn't have one. I asked Junior before he left Thursday afternoon if they'd be done the next day. I was told Yes. The next day no one came and when I asked why I was told the helper said I'd be gone (which wasn't true). On Monday I said I didn't want him back. I've had his scaffold and ladder for 3 weeks and my new painter said he'd meet him at Sherwyn Williams. The new painter completed the job in 4 days. Mr. ******'s resolution to the problem was NO REFUND and he would complete the job. I'M AFRAID TO HAVE HIM IN MY HOUSE since I live alone. He's saying now I opted out of the contract.
