I hired Mr. ********************** to drywall an expanded pantry under my staircase of a $2 million home. It took two guys almost 12 hours to hang the drywall and then 2-3 guys 4 hours to mud it. They said the job was complete and gave me a total $ amount due. I took a quick glance at the work and assumed they did a good enough job because Mr. ********************** was a legit business, not just a few random guys I hired. I paid them and they said that if I wanted, they could come back a few days later and paint. I said I would let them know. The next day, after the compound dried, I took a closer look and discovered what you'll see in the pictures below. I contacted the company and told them that this work was completely unacceptable. The woman I spoke to told me they would send someone out to "Finish" it. She admitted that they did not finish the job and that's what they were going to do on the day they mentioned PAINTING. Not only was the job not finished but the work was done very poorly. I did not want them to finish it by simply covering up their mistakes, I wanted it FIXED. They sent a person out who refused to FIX anything so I asked him to leave. I then asked for a full refund and was told that will not happen. The woman said she can offer me $850 because that would have been their cost to FINISH the job. I said I want an extra $150 to help cover the cost of me having to FIX what they screwed up. She refused and sent me a check for $850. I am now looking for a full refund because I had to rip out almost 35% of the work they did and I've spent over 20 hours of my own labor fixing their mistakes.

Yes, we did work for *************

He hired us to drywall the space under the stair, not to expand, but to hang drywall. He obtained an estimated cost based on pictures that were showing partial details and less work than it actually had to be done. Naturally, the price changed and that was when tension started.

At the end of the two days of labor that were booked for the job based on the pictures, we charged the amount and said we would be back a few days later to finish (sand and straighten) and paint. And even mentioned that there will be no extra charge, although the paint and painting were never included in the work order.

That was when ************ started complaining about the quality of work. I personally explained him, several times, that we guarantee our work and that we will give him the result he expected. I scheduled an appointment that he canceled saying he wanted his money back and no further work to be done and started to insult us in a manner that no other company or technician would have taken. He basically stated that we have no idea what we are doing, that he is a drywall professional and that he wants us the execute the work under his instructions.

Again, I explained him that we guarantee our results and scheduled another appointment. One day, two technicians to finish up. The second they showed up, ************ started bossing them around and telling them that they will do it the way he says and ended up throwing them out of the house, insulting and cussing them out in an unprecedented way.

That was when I called him and got the same mean and rude treatment. Even if I was insulted, I kept my cool and started negotiations to ameliorate the situation.
He asked for a refund and I offered $850, the budget allocated to wrap up his job.
************ initially accepted and soon enough changed his mind and added to the price. I have never agreed on that but told him I would see what I can do.

Everything was settled and calm until ************ has received the check. Instead of disputing the amount, he instantly cashed the check and announced us that he will start a huge campaign against us.

Pardon me if I don't understand... but how would $1,000 change a lot more than $850 unless it is a matter of winning in a situation.

We definitely understand complaining about the final result of a project and this is why we guarantee our work. Even after a complain, we go back to make it right, it is part of our practice.

We did go back after ************ complained, not to repair, but to finish, but he kicked us out.

Unfortunately, we were not allowed to complete the process so we cannot be held accountable.

I have signed invoices, payment proof, several text messages that I can share to prove the above and also the check charge proof and not a dispute coming from *************

      Complaint: 17796433

I am rejecting this response because:

The response from the vendor is greatly exaggerated and even completely false in some cases.

*alse fact #1:  When the workers arrived on day 1 the very first thing they told me is that it was going to cost more because they could not see half of the work in the photos.  I agreed and said I accept the fact that it will cost more.  I accepted this because Mr. ********************** only allowed me to post 3 pictures.  The area of work was "U" shaped and it was very difficult to show all the detail in 3 pictures.  There was no tension at this point.

*alse fact #2:  The vendor stats that "we charged the amount and said we would be back a few days later to finish (sand and straighten) and paint."  This is 100% false.  The manager gave me the *INAL cost of the job on the phone.  At that point, the worker took the phone and spoke to the manager. The worker then turned to me and said they will come back on Monday AND PAINT, at no additional charge.  There was ZERO mention that the work was not finished A*TER I paid and most certainly no mention of it BE*ORE I paid.  I admit, I made the mistake of not looking at the work closer before paying.  I trusted that they were professionals.  I said I would let them know if I wanted them to come back Monday to paint.  A day later, I took a closer look at the work and noticed how absolutely horrible the job was and that it was not even finished.

When I called and complained about the quality of the work, I was told, as mentioned, that they guarantee their work and that they would *IX the problems. At this point I felt the work was so incredibly bad that I did not want them to try to fix it.  She sent a text that says "I have a professional that will do it.  We promised we guarantee the work, this will be done right"   I started to voice concern about the same person doing the work she assured me that the person that would come was an expert.  I said I did not want anyone who who did the original work to come.  She stated the 1 individual from the previous week would come.  I did not agree because that person was the one who looked at the work, said it was complete and deemed it ACCEPTABLE before asking me to pay.  She then, for the first time, acknowledged that the work was not finished and that they offered to paint so they could come back and finish before they painted.  I said I wanted a *ULL refund but she was able to convince me that they will come back and that "the result will be as expected".

When the worker came back, the first thing he did was apologize for the work and informed me that one of the workers had been let go.  That's a pretty clear acknowledgement to the fact that they know the work was horrendous.  I was not rude and I did not "boss them around".  A second worker even apologized to me when they saw the work.  The first thing the worker tried to do was tell me how the things I pointed out "were not that bad" and that outlet covers would cover up the issues.  I did not want outlet covers to cover up the work they screwed up, I wanted it fixed and done correctly.  He again stated that he didn't see the issue and that if I wanted, he could just throw some more compound on the area and sand it down.  I again said I didn't want everything to just have a ton of compound thrown on the area and sanded because I've done drywall and I know that in the future it will likely crack.  He argued with me and I told him that I was told by his manager that I was going to have everything fixed to my liking.  At that point he argued some more about why he didn't see an issue with the way it was and so I told him to leave.  I asked him to leave and he continued to try to talk me into letting him just "sand everything down".  I said, "No, this is a $2million house, I want this done right".  I then told him I'm sorry but he's gotta leave and that I'm gonna get my money back and do it myself.  At that point the worker said "You're not getting your money back".  That's when I was absolutely rude to the worker and told him to get the * out of my house.

I called the office and at this point I was still fairly calm until I was told that I'm not getting any refund since I didn't let them fix it.  We were on the phone for probably 20 mins as I was explaining that I could see things in the work that indicated to me that certain things needed to be REDONE and fixed, not just sanded down. I explained that I have no problem doing the work myself, I just want a refund for the work they did.  I never said 100% refund.  She refused ANY refunds until I pointed out that I actually paid for a COMPLETED job and I did not get a completed job. She later came back and gave me the $850 figure as what she could refund me.  Another false statement by her, "************ initially accepted and soon enough changed his mind and added to the price."  I never accepted this amount.  I immediately said that I should be getting at least $1700 back but that I was willing to compromise and take an even $1000.  I have the texts to prove this.  I was willing to compromise.  I had an estimate of how much it would take me to *IX and finish the job.  I simply asked for the extra $150 to help cover the cost of material that I needed to purchase to fix their mistakes.  I received the check and yes, I did deposit it right away.  I was afraid that if I mention not getting the amount I asked for, the check would be cancelled.  After the experience I had with them, I do not trust anyone at that company. Again, she mentions that they came back to "*INISH" and not to "*IX".  I have text messages showing that I stated to her many times about the need to "*ix" things.  She mentioned many times that they "Guarantee" Their work.

She stats  "I have signed invoices, payment proof, several text messages that I can share to prove the above and also the check charge proof and not a dispute coming from ************."  I also have texts where I am clearly disputing the quality of work.   I signed the invoice, I paid them.  I did what I was supposed to do.  Like I said, I made the mistake of trusting their work and not inspecting it before paying.  If I had done that, I would not have paid and this would be a completely different situation.  The bottom line is, I paid a lot of money to have professional do a job at my house.  The work was very very poor quality.  I asked for a refund, I was refused.  They clearly do not care about the quality of work they are doing.  With what I saw from their work, why would I allow them to come back to my home to do even more work?  The more incorrect work they did, the more work I would have to do to fix it.  I've since ripped out approximately 40% of the work they did.  I spent over $150 in tools and materials and I've spent probably 20 hours of my own personal labor.  I had ****************** in my house saying that the entire thing should have been torn out and started from scratch because it would take more labor to fix.  Upon tearing out their work, I began to see just how bad their work was.  Corner tape was installed backwards, most of the tape didn't have compound behind it(this would have caused cracking down the road), large areas over 2" that were just filled with compound instead of cutting a new piece.  multiple locations in corners where the board was not cut long enough but they just threw the corner bead over it to cover it up, They pushed a wall sheet up so far that it pushed the ceiling up and exposed the ceiling fixture. (I would not have been able to install the light because of this).  (They buried an outlet.  This could have been a potential fire hazard and would have cost me hundreds of dollars by hiring an electrician to find out why the outlets weren't working.)  They installed all of the drywall completely to the floor instead of allowing a gap between the bottom and the concrete.  (this could have potentially caused mold growth).  They also used fiberglass tape on many joints. (*iberglass tape is WIDELY known to crack and is not the selection of professionals)

      Sincerely,

      *************************

      We are submitting documentation showing:
      - the invoice contains both acknowledgement signatures by customer
      - the invoice was paid by check that customer willingly signed
      - invoices showing refund although the customer was informed that no refund will be approved until warranty work is completed
      - communication reflecting good will regarding satisfactory completion, huge efforts convincing the customer to allow us to finish the job, incredible resistance from customer side to allow us to complete the work, although he was informed that no refund was going to be submitted before warranty work, acknowledgement of the previous, proof of good will accepting to ***** a refund, customer aggressive behavior (he insulted a women, and the tech team).
      Thank you!

      Complaint: 17796433

I am rejecting this response because:

They submitted documents showing my signatures and showing the refund.  I am not, and have never disputed the fact that I signed off on the work.  I have admitted that I did not look over the job as I should have.  I signed paperwork and handed them a check based on my thought that they were professionals and didn't need to be checked up on.  In their latest response, they mentioned "warranty" work but the job was never completed.  How can there be warranty work if it was never completed in the first place?   I have attached two text conversation where this was admitted.  So again, I was charged full price for a job that was admittedly not completed.  I was issued a refund based on what was NOT completed.  I am not disputing that part.  I am disputing the quality of the work they performed and I have contacted the BBB because of their shady tactics.  Their shady tactics include: 1) Having me sign off on and pay for a job that was not complete while telling me it was complete.  2)Acting like they were providing me with a "FREE" paint job the following Monday.  This was a lie.  They needed Monday to finish the job.  Why wouldn't they just tell me it was not done and they need another day?? 3) Telling me they would come back and do the job correctly only for the worker to come back and argue with me for 15 minutes about why the job they did was good. 4) Sending me a refund for an amount that I did not agree on.

Once again, the work they did was completely unsatisfactory and they are trying to spin this situation as if I simply didn't let them finish the work.  I gave them an opportunity "FIX" the work, they refused.   I have also attached texts where they said they would "Smooth" out the area.  This was far beyond just smoothing the area and I was not about to let them ************ up their mistakes, I wanted this done correctly.  This is my house, I will not settle for a sub-par job that will 100% cost me more money in the future to fix.  I wanted it done right and I ultimately did the work myself and made it right.  All I am asking for is some sort of compensation.  I initially asked for a whopping $150 that they refused to provide.  To finish the job correctly, I ended up spending around $200 and worked an additional 15 hours myself to fix their mistakes.

I've attached pictures of text conversations that shows on July 7th at 5:10PM, they tried to schedule the painting on the following Monday.  I've also attached a pictures of a text conversation where they admitted that they knew the work was not done and that they made the paint appointment to do the repairs and finish the job.  Also, text conversations of them admitting that the total I paid was for the time and materials they already spent and that further work would have "raised the bill" even more but they would finish it "no charge".  So, as you can see, there was a lot of changes made on their part once they knew they had messed up.

      Sincerely,

      *************************
