As a former student of Aveda, I have been very unhappy with the education that I have received while enrolled at Aveda. Prior to my tour at Aveda, I toured other schools but I was certain that Aveda would be a great school for my career goals. I came prepared for my tour, I printed a list of questions and I was assured by the administration that yes Aveda teaches makeup, lashes, nails and there would be certification. So I was eager to attend Aveda, however, during the first few weeks of my training at Aveda I learned that we in fact do become certified in anything, and if we do it an out-of-pocket fee and it would depend on if the educator has experience, which was not disclosed to me during my tour. Often, we wouldn't have an educator to teach us on Saturdays, but we were still required to attend class even if we didn't have an educator. We were required to show up before 9 am and if we did get an educator on Saturdays they'd come in by 10 sometimes 11. We also were taught on what Aveda calls platform which is Zoom from another campus educator, even if our teacher was there platform was mandatory in intro from 9-12 pm. I do not learn well from online learning, especially when I paying for a course that is hands-on. I would have been fine with learning on Zoom if all campus educators had the same teaching styles often however my in-person educator would tell us students " Do not listen to the advice of other educators because they will stir you wrong." There was no sterilizer in the clinic room, so to me, that's very unsanitary. My final straw with Aveda was the fact that we could receive credit for doing makeup on paper. I did not understand how I would learn the fundamentals of makeup on paper. The Aveda brand is based on holistic which is great for some, however, I have a desire to learn Makeup, Waxing Nails, & Skincare not just the Aveda way. The education I have received at Aveda is not sufficient enough for me to be successful in the workforce.
