Contacted Ampd electrician to install natural gas generator Received estimate that stated permitting and installation of generator. Electrician never even came out to my house, even after I gave him the deposit. A week later he calls me and says he cannot get the permit I need to hire another contractor he cannot pull the permit. I immediately told him that I need someone who can install this generator if he cannot do it then to put everything on hold and to stop what he was doing. At 1:40 in the morning he starts texting me that he is going to keep my deposit and that he never told me he was able to install this generator. There is no other reason I would've contacted this person as he told me he was a licensed Generac generator installer and apparently he cannot even pull the permit to hook it up. In addition he got the permit application started in someone else's name it's not in my name he has never been to my house. It is so sad in the world today when you trust somebody you pay and you purchase all the materials I spent $5300 on materials and I gave him a $1400 deposit and now he tells me he's not able to do the job and he's not refunding my money.

      Business response

      08/10/2022

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/07/09) */ This response will be brief and to the point, next response will be providing the copies of request and the correct turn of events. I had a contract to install a customer provided generator and helped him chose the correct gear when he had selected the choice that any rookie would have. He requested I pull permit which i did and was not denied permit but was sent an email that the gas guy needs to pull his part of the permit before issued. I have the permit soon after and it was listing previous owners from ppzh Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2022/07/13) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) Robert G***** was contracted to install and permit a natural gas generator , he helped me select the unit and told me he was certified by Generac to install it. I spent over $5200 based on his recommendation to get this specific generator. Instead of coming out to the house he had me running around my own house taking pictures sending videos and doing everything on my own but understanding that he is a licensed contractor I trusted him . I first heard from him June 16 it is now July 15 and he has never been to my house once. he went to get the permits , which is something you can do online and it takes five minutes. I have pulled my own permits before . Looking at his estimate it says install and Permit natural gas generator so if he needs to bring someone else in as a subcontractor to do the Gas side that is not something he ever mentioned and that is not some thing that he ever told me was necessary . As far as his original estimate it includes the gas installation because installing a natural gas generator you would have to hook up the power source to have it inspected He then sent me a message at 4:20 PM on July 5th , saying he is not able to pull the permit because he is not licensed to do gas. I replied what gas guy and then started getting very nervous and started to panic that I was getting ripped off. Later that evening at 7:25 he starts explaining to me why he can't do the job. As soon as I receive that message at 8 o'clock the same evening I immediately told him to please stop as he is not able to perform the proper installation and permitting of this generator. he is the expert and obviously would need to know and inform the consumer that he is not able to permit and install this natural gas generator. I have three weeks of messages where he discusses the gas and never mentions bringing in someone else to do the work . After telling him to stop everything and refund the money for breach of contract, at 1:40 AM he starts texting me threatening to keep my money , that he never told me it was a gas installation , and that he does not do gas. Obviously there is no need for me to use this person to install this unit if he does not do these jobs I am not sure why for the last three weeks he has convinced me that it is a simple thing. he has never once mentioned that we will need to bring in a second contractor and when he finishes his work the generator will not be hooked up to the fuel supply that it needs I don't know how someone's going to install a generator without hooking it up to the fuel supply . so again I repeated at 2 o'clock in the morning that I would like my money back since he has never been to the house. Instead of simply returning my deposit realizing he can't do the job he texted me until four in the morning nasty comments how " I should go to hell and he is canceling the permit he wrote that at three times that he was canceling , there's no reason i should have to pay for that either. I tried to include all of his comments & nasty statements in the photos below. He also clearly states that he is "about to play word games with me " and this is at 1 o'clock in the morning that is very rude and I believe he was drunk because he was being nasty. In addition I contacted the Lake County permit investigator and the Lake County permit investigator Michael R**** ****************************** said that Robert G***** had not even pulled the permit yet, because he needs a gas license , and that he has only pulled 10 permits in the last several years to install this type of generator , I have it in writing where robert g***** says he it has installed hundreds of them. He also said he has the materials and after i asked for my deposit back he said that he spent a lot of time getting the permits and he said that he bought materials. I told him I have no problem paying for the materials he can bring me the receipt and the materials, but obviously he was lying and didn't purchase any materials because he already told me he had them laying around. Not sure why he continued to do anything because after he notified me he was not able to get the permit I told him to stop everything and that I will be hiring someone else who is certified to do gas and electric. Three weeks after contacting him and one week after cashing my deposit he decides to inform me that he is not able to do the job so I'm asking for a simple refund. I've never in my life had issues like this I am a steward with local 835 at the convention center I am also an elected representative for the AFLCIO national education association union. As a realtor I've sold over $25 million in real estate and have had to deal with hundreds of contractors throughout my career. Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2022/07/14) */ I must say this is like an essay on how to tear down a far fetched lboarderline fraudulent cop like report twisting all aspects of the actual events. I'll correctly amend these allegations and as they say keep it real. Yes I did ask for pics to ultimately save him money because right away he said he was purchasing his own generator and was a special Ed teacher on tight budget and wanted to be as cheap as he could. Regardless I've done enough generators all over the state to be able to at least get a basic scenario to kick things off as far as what side of the home it should sit, where the gas meter is located and where the electrical panel was located. Pics are good. Although for a contractor to pull a permit even online permit requires liability insurance, workers comp, bonding, state license, DBPR requirements, reciprocal comp card and filing corporation paperwork etc. I had no problem with my permit and already had my permit but the municipality told me that they wouldn't inspect until gas was permitted and installed. This generator was attempted to be ordered prior to my involvement to the project, I've heard nothing from him except how he is a handyman and has done lots of construction and seemed to be presenting himself as knowledgeable enough to know that the gas and electrical are 2 separate parts of the install. I DONT DO GAS! Well this just blows his mind how I don't do the gas and since it's a gas generator that means ......? I DONY DO GAS! Nowhere in the estimate or invoice does it say I do gas at all just because an electrical contractor installs a gas generator doesn't imply that the electrical contractor has anything to do with the gas. Again he supplied the generator I'm only being hired to install the electrical. For a man with all the construction talent he boast about and all the participation he has with this and that you would think he would be more familiar with how states have different counties and cities and municipalities also I'm 55 years old been doing electrical since I was 16 I've installed I've installed over 100 generators they may not have all been in the lake county section as I'm a state contractor currently in Orange, lake, Polk, Osceola, Seminole, volusia and many cities that have their own permitting requirements so for him to say the lake county building Dept said I've only pulled x amount of permits is totally irrelevant. His deposit is not refundable it is also the first part of the invoice that I'd non refundable and was part of the like engineering, location preferences, RLA derating and sag calculations and switch selections. The second part 20% was due after my permit was issued and it was approved. He has a 5 foot section of gas line that needs to be permitted and installed the way I designed it for him. I even told him he would have to run a gas line all the way to other side of house if he placed the generator where he was originally placing it. I never said I would have to run gas line I DONT DO GAS! He also said get the permit paperwork for the gas permit go out to your truck and fill it out sign his name on it and turn it in. I DONT DO GAS ! I'm not licensed for gas 99 out of 100 electrical contractors has a gas license I've never actually meet one but the plumber can do gas mist of the time. The fact he's a teacher is irrelevant I'm not sure why he keeps saying that he's a teacher and blah blah blah.after all he has said about me to social mediaBBB,building Dept and who knows about me being a scammer I still was willing to forgive a complete to job and ask if he would kindly apologize and even sent him some contacts of gas installers for his 5' gas line whip but NOOOO he says stop the project stop the already issued permi, copy of receipt is available and I'll try to attach but is public record. Summering it all up he feels electrical contractors should be able to do gas installs even if they never say they do gas installs, he took it apon himself to order the generator, his deposit has been applied to the engineering and calculations, his permit was approved and issued so he owes 20% accordingly to estimate layout and agreement because I don't do the gas he has requested to stop the project and when I asked what do you want to do you want me to hook up the generator for you or what? He basically breeched the contract by putting a stop to the project and started getting estimate from other contractors that do gas installs. That's so much after the fact it's funny. Teacher needs educating. Thank you and good night. PS I answered this complaint when I don't really have to I don't accept BBB rules about controlling lien rights by requesting arbitration in stead of the construction lien laws, it's my constitutional right to lien a home for non payment in order to get paid for improvements to someone else's property. Arbitration is binding and when they hear both sides someone that may or may not be familiar with construction law makes the decision and even if they imply that the customer should pay now they don't have the sense of urgency like a lien on the home has. They could basically just blow it off. I used to be A+ accredited business with lots of great reviews until I denied the arbitration and after 20+ years they dropped me to a D+ and took my accreditation because somewhere in the contract I signed way back then it says I agree to arbitration, we'll I don't and everyone should take this to heart because this private company that should stick to reviews will try to tell you how to run your business and keep you from getting paid through the proper channels as instructed in out training before we became contractors. They asked me would you do arbitration like I had a choice without consequences but then after I denied they said I don't follow through with the BBB requirements and dropped all my good reviews and put me at D+. BBB can just count me out of their membership that I paid $400 per year and was there 20+ years. BBB stands for BOO BOO BOO in my opinion. Consumer Response /* (4200, 11, 2022/07/19) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) We ordered a 14 KW natural gas generator and then contacted Ampd Electric because they were a certified Generac installer. That is in writing in my first message to him We told him it will be delivered at the end of June. He told us he is an expert and he knows exactly what to do and he does not even need to come out to the house . I spent half a day going around the house videotaping and sending him pictures including an arrow pointing to the gas meter !! and an arrow pointing to the panel and he said yes I am able to hook it up!! Why would the consumer have a generator that you can't even turn on after Install and Permit? It needs the gas line as the power source. Please tell me how you can inspect a generator and permit it and have the county come out if you're not licensed to install the gas?? After cashing our deposit he contacted us several days later, saying he is not able to pull the permit . why would he wait until talking to the county office if he knew he wasn't going to be able to do it and he needed to bring in another contractor somethings fishy. We offered to pay his time for getting the permit which was 15 minutes because I was able to see in my messages when he told me he filed for it An investigator at Lake County Michael R**** even said that the permit is not complete and Robert G***** did not even pay for the permit yet, that is as of today 7/19/22 1:20 pm so Robert G***** is not being truthful. I have an invoice in my email that says once the permit is granted I no more money and I was just told by the county it has not been granted I also have a third email with another invoice that states I owe him the full amount of the job when completed and nothing has been completed so that's the third fraudulent bill he sent me he has yet to be at my house. Now as the Better Business Bureau I'm sure you would be interested in threats harassment attacks especially with everything that's going on in the world today so because I'm asking for my money I'm being accused of being different things, who likes to do things to people etc. etc. and I'm going to send you the screenshots of these harassing and threatening messages so someone needs to take some action against this guy. This has also been going on at 1-2 am in the morning These are his messages verbatim cut and pasted from my email there are many many more disgusting and hateful comments from this person. We have a lot of friends in the rainbow community and everywhere else, and this just not acceptable in my world. See below, i'm sure you don't want someone with a Better Business Bureau saying these types of things.
