The stylist did not provide the level of service agreed upon during our consultation/signed agreement, even after providing a photo, and as a result, I have a choppy haircut that should have been a long bob and will take months to grow out, and color/highlights that are abrasive, streaky, and unnatural looking. After posting a negative review about my experience, the salon owner, Connie, said during a phone call that due to their return policy she would not provide a refund and that "we were even," because I posted the review (which is retaliation). She also said that if I had not posted my review she may have been willing to talk. She then hung up on me and would not answer my calls to the salon. My review was factual, with photos to illustrate my experience, and I never mentioned the stylist by name or told anyone to avoid this place of business. If the stylist had provided quality services by cutting and coloring my hair as agreed and expected, I would not have asked for a refund or posted a negative review. However, this stylist cut uneven chunks of hair off my head and gave me highlights that were in 1/4-inch pieces, with a base color that caused banding. Connie, instead of approaching the situation from an investigative point of view, was defensive, rude, and talked over me during our phone call, and as I explained above, hung up on me before repeatedly saying "there is nothing to talk about, we are done here." There are many stylists who work at the salon, and having only had one of them touch my hair, I can't say with certainty that you would experience the same poor quality of service, however, I do caution anyone that the owner is defensive, acts on emotion, and has poor customer service skills. She also uses the return policy as a crutch. I feel like I was scammed out of $245 and I certainly will never be going back there or recommending their services if asked.

    Clove Aveda Salon Response

    12/06/2021

Dawn was very happy with her service when she left the salon and tipped her stylist $50. Before speaking with anyone she went to social media with her complaint instead of discussing her dissatisfaction with the salon management. She also signed a customer information form on her visit that stated that services are non refundable but that we guarantee our services and would provide a redo service if desired. She then told me that if she didn't get what she wanted she was going to spread even more negative reviews and would contact the local media and the Better Business Bureau. We gave her a full refund and she still made more negative reviews.

    Customer Response

I had called the salon three times before posting any online reviews, and called again the Monday following my appointment. The lighting in the salon made it difficult to see the actual color, and I could not see the top of my head. It wasn't until I returned home and had a closer look that I realized my haircut was not what I had asked for, nor was the color. The stylist hacked my hair to the point of it no longer being the bob cut I asked for, even after showing a photo.

The salon owner acted emotionally and out of retaliation for negative reviews. Writing a negative review is my right to do so under the Consumer Review Fairness Act. I never named the stylist, and my review was based on the service received, along with photos to illustrate the poor quality of work.

I signed the mentioned agreement in October for my October appointment. I did not sign one for services in November, which is the appointment described here. If using the October paperwork as reference for all other appointments, the agreement is null and void if the stylist does not provide the services agreed upon, which is what happened in this case.

If the color, highlights, and cut would have been done well and to what I had asked for, I would not have asked for a refund. Not liking something that's done well, and not liking something that's done poorly are two completely different situations. The pictures I provided, however, speak for themselves.

As a tit-for-tat, I had to sign a liability release in order to receive a full refund.

This part is a complete lie: "She then told me that if she didn't get what she wanted she was going to spread even more negative reviews and would contact the local media and the Better Business Bureau. We gave her a full refund and she still made more negative reviews."

What actually happened is that after she hung up on me after trying to discuss my situation with her, I called back several times. No one would pick up the phone, so I left a message stating everything I mentioned above, and that my next steps would be to contact the BBB, Attorney General's office, and the media. All negative reviews are dated, and were made after she hung up on me. It wasn't until the next day she called to offer me a refund. No one should have to experience what I went through, especially with receiving a refund.
