On April 1 2023 I was incorrectly charged $450 at time of service. My Insurance company had already confirmed the service was covered in full, and that the provider was in-network. However, the business insisted that I pay them $450 (which they were not entitled to) in order to be seen for a medically necessary procedure. I had no choice but to pay their ransom. During the exchange with the receptionist, explaining they were in error about my responsibility, I was given printouts of coverages from the insurer. The printouts - provided to me by the business - clearly show my responsibility as 0% and that for "complex imaging other than CAT scan/Plan Ded Waived". Despite the plain text on their own printouts, the receptionist refused to consider they were in error. I was provided the name of a manager (Debbie) and told that they would call me when the business opened on Monday. A call which never came. I called 4 times throughout the day on Monday to discuss the error with the merchant, and each time the call went to a voice mailbox after navigating a phone menu and waiting on hold. Similarly, those calls were never returned. I confirmed again today with my insurance provider that the procedure was covered 100% and I was not responsible for a deductible payment. However, as explained by the receptionist, the policy of the merchant is to collect from the patient at time of service, and then several weeks later once they have filed a claim and the patient has an EOB in hand to substantiate their request, then the customer "may request a refund". This is a patently absurd, likely fraudulent practice which improperly bills patients for services and then places the burden on them to seek a refund of the over-billing. The refusal of the merchant to return phone calls or confirm the accuracy of their demand for payment reeks of institutional arrogance. I would like assistance receiving an immediate refund of my $450 wrongfully collected.
