I had a BRAND new roof installed by this company in January 2023 (this year). On December 16th water was found in my master closet which was found to be coming from the bathroom exterior wall. The leak was traced back to the roof which the company came out and claimed the leak on the roof and repaired it. However they are refusing to cover the damage this leak has caused inside my house. The leak has been happening for a while it turns out (since the roof was completed) and has caused mold to form and damage not only the plywood on the roof, rafters, (which they did not replace they just covered up with new tar to fix the leak) It damaged the ceiling in my shower, the walls behind my shower (that needs to be now torn out and replaced due to moisture/mold, the walls and wood in the master toilet room, wood trim in the master closet, and the carpet in the master closet. I'm not asking this company for anything extra other than honoring the warranty for workmanship that caused this issues in my household. I don't know how they can take ownership over the leak and repair it but refuse to fix the damage it caused.Business response

Unfortunately the roof did leak and my company did immediately respond to fix the leak. The damage the customer speaks of is where he completely removed the drywall himself in his bathroom. The customer did state that he planned to do so already since the leak in this area was present previously. The mold mentioned was not new growth, it was very clear that the mold he found was not active and had been there for a while. Unfortunately due to the high humidity of bathrooms, mold does tend to grow on drywall without a roof leak. Damages caused by the leak are not our responsibility however I always try to do right by our customers. Sadly the damage caused in this home was not by the roof leak but the homeowner himself who is thinking he can get a bathroom remodel out of a minute roof leak. We will not be covering the damage as it was unnecessary to remove the drywall for this particular leak.Initial Complaint

We paid this contractor a large sum of money to have a new roof put on a commercial building that we own. The building has since leaked in the same spot for over a year now. They have attempted to repair but it I believe 4 times but it still continues to leak. It has now caused water damage to the inside of the building which we had to have replaced. The owner of the roofing company, Scott ***** Roofing in Lecanto, Fl, asked us to check and make sure nothing else caused the wall and ceiling damage. We did our due diligence and complied in good faith with other service providers. Everything checked out clear. That only leaves the roof leak to be the cause of the damage done to the ceiling in the walls. The tenant in that area of the building is a therapist. She had to remove her staff and cancel appointments until this was corrected. The roofing company did not care to address this in a timely fashion. Therefore, we had to hire our own contractor and pay out $3400 to have this corrected to avoid any health concerns with the black mold that was found behind the wall. The owner of the roofing company now refuses to take responsibility for these charges and still will not return our phone calls. I am very disappointed after being a member of this community for many many years, over the lack of professionalism and concern. Once this roofer received his large sum of money, his lack of concern was very low. We are also contacting his insurance company and I have also reached out to an attorney. This caused many other expenses and loss of revenue to our tenant. However, again in good faith, we are simply trying to recover the cost of the repairs, which in fact we're also done at our contractors cost in good faith. It is beyond me why the roofer doesn't feel that he has any responsibility. Our contract with this roofer also has a 10 year warranty for leaks.Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2021/12/02) */ Contact Name and Title: Scott ***** Owner Contact Phone: XXXXXXXXXX Contact Email: *****************@gmail.com Please be factual with your complaint. We were made aware that there was a leak roughly 6 weeks ago according to the conversation I had with your husband Wednesday October 24, 2021 at which time I made your husband aware that I was traveling and will not have cell phone service until the following week. He told me that the leak had just begun and that you discovered mold. I made him aware that it would take longer for mold to form and to inspect the ventilation system in your laundry mat or with your AC system. We determined the leak was an issue with the original structure of the building, not with the workmanship or Installation of the roof. I did in fact agree to pay the $300 quoted for drywall repairs by your handyman who then wanted $3,500 for mold removal? As far as I know, a handyman isn't licensed for that type of work. I value all my customers, past, present and future, however I will not willingly pay $3,500 for something that is of no fault of my own or my installers. I am not required to cover any expenses for damages however I try to be fair in those instances and help when I can. I still feel that if there was in fact mold, it was not caused by a leak small leak that was on your roof. I am not sure why your tenant opted to close practice for this issue as it was not anything that would have been a health concern for the employees or the clients. As I stated on the phone today, I am willing to help with the drywall repairs since we had a product failure with the first repair however I will not be taken advantage of and pay for a potential remodel of your property. Scott ***** Consumer Response /* (2000, 7, 2021/12/03) */ We have since talked with the owner and are hopeful we can meet on Monday to come to an agreement. In all fairness, I must say I appreciate his phone call. Hopefully we can work together Monday and start on a new foot. : )
